FROM OUR CAPTAIN BOB SIDES ON WEDNESDAY,  SEPTEMBER 24TH   2008

Greetings Nobles,
the last parade of the season (at least as far as we know now), is Saturday AM, Norfolk.  Step off at 10 AM means an early start.  I am going to be leaving from Branched Oak as we will be camping with the Covered Wagons.  Please let me know if you will be able to participate and we can set up a meeting point in David City or Columbus for breakfast.

Planning meeting @ Shrine Center, Monday night, 7PM, Sept 29 with the Corvettes.  Need to review and make sure we have everything ready since this will be our first BBQ in the new center.  Monday night football will be on and I have received permission to open the bar.  Bring your ladies also.

Remember that we need to be finding some raffle items for the BBQ.  Harry Lipert is planning to again donate a week of his condo in Arizona..   Don't expect any other items to be that big but hope to have a lot of smaller ones.

Let me know if you need any more tickets.  Still have more available.

Subject: Upcoming events/dates

Greetings all,
upcoming events needing our attention:

1)   Weds April 9  (tonight)    Shrine Stated meeting.  Harleys are selling the 50/50 tickets.  We have several volunteers already however the more we have, the better we can be sure all in attendance have the chance to buy tickets.  Good income for the unit as we keep the 50% not given away.

2)   Friday April 11               Deadline for ordering onions.  Please turn your orders in to myself by Weds eve or preferably turn them in to the office as I will be leaving town early Thursday AM.  Unit still gets $1/bag and Sesostris still making money off each bag.  Keep selling.

3)   Saturday April 19           Shrine Hospital Awareness days  We had a cancellation on the 10:30 - noon shift.  Please let me know if you will be able to help out for this short time slot.  (Iron Nobles are staffing the Friday eve slots)

4)    Monday April 21            Harleys monthly meeting.  Please try to attend.  We will be planning the Potentate's Ball Hospitality Room.  Let me know if you are interested in getting your name in a drawing for use of the room Saturday night.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Bob

FROM OUR CAPTAIN BOB SIDES ON APRIL 2ND  2008

Greetings,

Seven Harley members braved the elements (well a little bit of cold) this afternoon to ride escort for Wilma who will be dearly missed.  They were Al P., Roger, Rick, Jim T. John J., Eldon and myself.  For those of you who were unable to attend the reception afterwards, too bad.  They had ice cream bars that made great handwarmers.

Gary Hahn expressed his appreciation afterward and commented that he knew Wilma was watching and very pleased.  The only thing she would have preferred would have been riding with one of us instead of in the hearse.

I was at a meeting this evening with Ill. Sir Mark and he asked that I pass on his appreciation for our representation.  He also mentioned our participation during his remarks at the meeting.

Thanks again.

Bob

FROM OUR CAPTAIN BOB SIDES ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY,20TH,  2008

Greetings fellow riders,
per the previous communication, we are going to need to get posters out this Saturday.

Unlike the previous communication, our breakfast meeting place will be the Golden Corral on North 27th.  It is in the parking lot of the old Payless Cashway, Rod Kush, whatever.  West side of 27th between LES and Applebees.  Let them know you are with the Shriner group.  We will share a room with the Covered Wagons.  Last month, we were in the southeast corner of the building.  Assuming same location.  Last month we received an Early Bird pricing of $5.59 for the full buffet.  Assuming it will still be the same.  Lot of assumptions.
Hope to see you there.  If we arrive to eat by 8:15, I think we should be ready to hit the streets by 9AM.  If you don't plan to eat but will be able to help, let me know so we don't leave without you.

Later,

Bob

FROM OUR CAPTAIN BOB SIDES ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY, 14TH,  2008

Fellow Harlyians,

time is running short.  Show starts tomorrow.  Hope to see all of you there at least part of the time whether you have your bike there or not.

Let's plan on going to the Legends (84th and Holdrege) after the show on Saturday, before Zeke's party.  I will try to get a head count to them to get a few tables reserved.  If you can join us, let me know.  Just don't use e-mail after midnight Friday night and expect me to get it on Saturday.

Mark your calendar for Saturday morning, February 23.  Village Inn, 27th and Cornhusker, breakfast @ 8 AM.  I have a whole bunch of circus posters that we need to distribute after breakfast.  Same area as in the past.  North of Cornhusker, NW 48th to 84th street.  I will have a bunch with me this week-end for anyone that wants to get a headstart on getting some out during the week.

Remember, Harley meeting at the Shrine Center Monday, Feb 18.

Try to stay warm and give your sweetheart a Valentine's kiss for me.

In the words of our Jr. Past Captain, Pete,
Fellow Harleyians, we need your help.

1)  For those of us who plan to enter our bikes in the display, Rick H needs the following ASAP:      Make:    Harley Davidson
          Model:   Electra Glide Ultra Classic
          Year:
Motor (cc's):           You can forward this e-mail with the information of year and motor.  He will take care of the     rest.  His e-mail address is sshog7425@aol.com.

2)  Please copy me when responding to Rick so I also will know who is planning to show.  From the meeting last week, I have the following names:  Roger, Rick, Dick, Bob, Pete, Doug.  Questionable were Ed and John.  Others mentioned were Charley and Al B.  How about others?  Coming to mind are Tom K, Tom K, Jimbo, IMP Sir John D.  Mark C and Kermit M, we have room if you want to participate.  The more the better.
We can check in bikes at the Lancaster County Event Center Thursday 2-14th from 5 - 10PM and Friday 2-15 from 10AM until 5PM.  Show opens at 5 PM.  Rick and Doug also will be needing help setting up the Sesostris display Friday AM.
I would like to have all members displaying their bikes include their Fez.  Preferrably on the front fender or ? if the fender doesn't work.  Too much wax or ??
If the weather remains nasty and you don't want to ride the bike, let me know.  There are several of us who have enclosed trailers that will be able to shuttle bikes.

3)   The Sesostris Clowns have been asked to help again this year.  We had an excellent turnout last year and it really helps.  I have had a request from one of the clowns that we have
more Motor Corps members there as well.  Point well taken.  Doug and Rick have been putting in a lot of preparation time and need relief help during the show hours.  Please plan to spend some time in the display area helping with selling raffle tickets, answering questions, being visible.  Please wear a Shrine shirt while at the show.  Let the attendees know who we are.

4)   We need to be selling the "Baja Dirt Runner" motorcycle raffle tickets.  Pre-sell, pre-sell, pre-sell.  The bike will be given away at the show.  I will be sending another e-mail after this one with more information.

Please give me a call or an e-mail with any questions.

Stay warm and ride safe if you get the chance to ride.

FROM SHRINERS 2000 ON FRIDAY, JULY 13TH, 2007

Nobles,

I haven't seen mention of this so, even though it is not current
news...

The motorcycle unit from Aleppo intended to send out an eight
man team to compete at Anaheim. One member, riding cross country,
had a minor accident enroute. He is fine.

However, a far greater problem occurred while in Anaheim. One
other member of the team, Noble Steven Bissette, suffered a massive
(and fatal) heart attack on July 1 in Anaheim. Noble Bissette,
besides being a member of the motorcycle drill team, was also
2nd Ceremonial Master at Aleppo.

The Aleppo motorcycle team competed as a six man team, in Steve's
honor and memory, and did as well as can be expected, bringing
in a few trophies.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT BOB SIDES ON JUNE 30TH, 2007

Greetings from  MMCI and Sesostris Harleys and  ......

Just finished mowing and decided it was a good time to get out a very, very past due update on some July events coming up.

First,
ABU BEKR SHRINE MOTORCYCLE FIELD DAY in Sioux City next Sunday, July 8.  This will be held at the Lewis and Clark ball park parking lot (exit 143).  Schedule is for obstacle course events and they will also have a demo field if any unit wants to show their drill.  The obstacle course will be the Imperial standard course and there will be some prizes for different classes.  This is scheduled to start at 11:30 AM and there will also be some guided rides in the Loess Hills if anyone is interested in doing that instead.  Plan to meet at the Shrine Temple at 2 PM for lunch and refreshments with the Potentate doing the grilling.
There are a few planning to ride up from Lincoln.  We plan to leave from 84th and Cornhusker HWY at 8:30 AM and would like to meet anyone from Omaha or ??  along the way.  Plan to take 680 around Omaha to I29.
Please let me know who is planning to go and where you would like to meet and we will coordinate the time.  I would like to have a head count by Tuesday so I can give them an idea of how many will be coming.  (remember to invite your lady also).

Second,
I have received the following message from WB Stephen Kennedy regarding the ride they have planned for Saturday 7/14.  There were 5 of us that attended from Lincoln last year and had a very good time.  (The fact that I somehow won the top hand might have added to my enjoyment)  A very scenic route, good company and a good cause.  Please read through Stephen's message and see if this is something you can get added to your busy calendar.

The ride is scheduled to start @ 11 AM.  Lincoln riders will leave from McDonalds , 56th and HWY 2 @ 8:45 AM.  Anyone else wishing to ride, please plan to meet us in Auburn between 10 and 11 AM.  It is official that our Poker run will be July 14th on the second Saturday of July. We will ride for the group called, Troop Support for Iraqi Freedom. This is a parental group that sends care packages and such to Nebraska units over seas. All funds, no operating costs by us or this group, will be used to purchase or send items to the troops associated with the National Guard units from Nebraska. By ourselves we couldn't send items to local personnel, but the parental group has been sanctioned by the military and has access to addresses and such.
The lady from Weeping Water is quite enthused by our wanting to do this. We have some local parents and spouses that belong to this group and feel that everything we raise will have a direct benefit.
If your group can participate it would be great. We also are going to include
the Patriot Guard, of which several of us are members, in this event and hope to make it much bigger then last year.

W. B. Stephen

Third,
I believe the 14th is also the scheduled date for the Tangier Motor B poker run.  Maybe someone there can respond to all with details for anyone wishing to do that ride.

Fourth,
I am going to be sending 2007 dues money to MMCI International in a couple weeks.  At the present time, I have collected dues from Chris Christiansen, Al Petersen, Andy Lasenieks, Roger Miner, Robert Herbolsheimer

Hi Bob – I received notice the location has changed – new location is the Lewis & Clark Ball Park parking lot which is located on the south edge of Sioux City.  I-29 to the Singing Hills exit (exit 143) and go to the second traffic light, which will be Stadium Drive.  Turn north and go straight into the park.

Lincoln riders, we will leave from Phillips 66 station, 84th and HWY 6 (Cornhusker Hwy) at 11:30 AM and meet Omaha riders at Mama's Pizza.  I don't have the address but Herby says on Saddle Creek, just north of Dodge.  Plan to be there 12:30 and then on to Joslyn after lunch.
Please let me know if you think you will be attending.  I know the weather forecast isn't the best but ???.
If you are unable to attend, I would still recommend that you try to get to this exhibit before it is gone.

This is a belated e-mail, sorry.

Fellow Harleyians

For those of you who were able to attend the open house last night and talk with fellow Nobles, you probably have more questions than you went there with.  The only way to separate rumors from fact is to attend the Stated Meeting tonight, ask questions, listen carefully and evaluate the options we need to consider.  We all want the same thing – to give Sesostris an opportunity to grow and thrive – VOTE !

Hope to see you tonight!

 Pete

PS – I’ll need help @ the 50/50 ticket table tonight – I’m anticipating a large crowd.  Who can help me?   - Thanks

Fellow Harleyians

Better late than never !!!

Tonight we can preview the proposed new site for the Shrine Center.  It’s located just North of the Hiway 77 and Saltillo Road.  There will be hamburgers &  drink while you check out the opportunity we have !!

As many of you know, we have a firm offer to purchase the existing location on Yolande and the opportunity in front of all of us to vote on a deal that looks very good – sale, purchase, etc.

Make your vote count and attend the Stated Meeting tomorrow night, check out the building tonight and attend tomorrow nights meeting.

Also, tomorrow night is the “Harley’s” night to sell 50/50 tickets so I’ll welcome all help willing to show up.  I’ll have the table set up @ 6:00 at the front entrance.

See ya there !!

FROM AL PETERSON ON Thurs. Dec. 14TH, 2006

It is with a heavy heart that I have to send out this email.  We lost a
loved and respected fellow Noble and Harley member last night with the
passing of Al Neeman.  He died while in attendance @ the annual Jester's
Christmas party.  He is an organ donor and anyone who knew Al would not be
surprised at this.  He was a very generous and considerate person who always
wanted to do the right thing.  As a result of knowing Al and being
associated with him, we are all a better person.

Funeral services are obviously pending at this point, but I will try to keep
you abreast of the plans.  I will be out of town tomorrow and Friday, but
will keep in touch.

Pete

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Judy and Lance and the rest of the Neeman Family. May our great Architect of the Universe be with you and comfort you in this time of sorrow.

FROM AL PETERSON ON THURSDAY, OCT. 5TH, 2006

Gentlemen (and Borchardt)

First of all, be sure to get your tickets and money turned into me ASAP.  All of the raffle tickets for Harry's condo will need to be turned into me no later than 5:00 tomorrow night, so we can insure all of the sold tickets are in the drawing.  I would prefer to receive them earlier, but time is running short.  I will be at the Shrine Center tomorrow afternoon about 2:30 or 3:00.  The Harley's will be keeping 100% of the raffle money generated from the ticket sales (less 1/2 of the printing expense) so let's make a last minute push to presell these.

We also need help at the BBQ---We will be setting up on Friday afternoon with the BBQ starting @ 5:00.  Dress will be our parade shirts or a Sesostris shirt with black pants.  Those who will be working in the kitchen----wear what you want!  We will need help with keeping glasses full of water and tea, cleaning off the tables, clean up after the BBQ is over, etc.

We are anticipating a good crowd with approx 350 tickets sold.  With everyone's help it will be a good time and a good money raiser for our unit.  SOOOOOOOO - unless you get a better offer, come on out to the SC and enjoy your friends and fellow "Harleyians" !  With 300#'s of ribs and 300#'s loin (brisket!!) to get rid of, how could we not have a good time!

See you tomorrow night.

Many Thanks
Pete

Good Morning

A few of us will be meeting tonite with the Corvette representatives to put
the final plans together for the BBQ.  I'm trying to get a feel for how many
tickets have been pre-sold.  If you'd reply to this email with how many you
have sold, I would be very appreciative!

Thanks

FROM NOBLE BOB SIDES ON August 29th, 2006

Good day Nobles,
just a quick note.
1.  To riders, don't forget to take a white shirt for the parade.  I will be taking both short and long sleeve.  Would prefer the short sleeve but am open to which ever.

2.    To all, I spoke last night with a friend who moved to St. Charles several years ago and still commutes back and forth about once a month.  He had just gotten home from Lincoln at the time we talked.  His route recommendation is 36 east out of St. Joseph to Hannibal and then south on 61 to I-70.  Said he did it in 6.5 hours yesterday.  I would guess that was minimal stops and moving right along howevert MapQuest says 7 hours, 10 minutes and 430 miles to the motel.  I think he said there is either 30 or 60 miles of two lane on 36 but he said this is a much more relaxing route than taking 70 from KC to St. Louis.

Anyway, select the route you feel most comfortable with.  Ride/drive safe and we will see you there.

FROM NOBLE BOB SIDES ON JULY 2ND, 2006

Just a short note regarding Saturday.

Six of us met at Metcalf Funeral Home and escorted Lloyd to Valpraiso.  Jean expressed her appreciation and remarked that Lloyd would have really appreciated it.
Escort riders were Tom Fischer leading, followed by Bob Sides, Rick Harris, John Jacobs, Dutch Buettgenbach and Tom Kennedy.  Roger Miner joined us in Valparaiso.  Following a few cups of coffee at one of Lloyd's coffee hangouts in Val, we joined a large number of Lloyd's freinds standing outside the church listening to the service (including the Masonic service) on an outside speaker.  Breeze in the shade wasn't too bad.  Following the church services, we rode escort on the hearse while following the Val Fire Dept fire truck.  Military rites were given at the cemetery.
Thank you to all the riders that were able to make the trip.  It was an impressive morning.  There were also a number of other Harley 74 riders at the services along with other Sesostris members and their ladies.

   History of Harley Davidson
Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson motorcycles began in Milwaukee in 1903. The first motorcycle was initially built for racing and was powered by a one-cylinder gasoline combustion engine. Later that year the first Harley-Davidson dealership, C.H. Lang of Chicago, opened and sold one of three motorcycles manufactured that year.

In 1906, due to increasing demands and need for a larger facility to fabricate their motorcycles, Harley-Davidson moved to a new factory measuring just 28x80 feet on Juneau Ave. Along with this expansion came more jobs. HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY LOGO OF DISTINCTION

As a fan of Harley-Davidson, you've seen this logo in countless places - on accessories, clothing, coffee cups, you name it. The Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield logo is one of the most recognized trademarks in the world.

So, where did this logo come from? The exact origin of the Bar and Shield is unknown. There is speculation that the logo was drawn by a member of the Davidson family and was based on railroad logos of the era and inspired by Walter Davidson's work in railroading.

The earliest use of the bar and shield known to the archives is 1908 as a transfer decal used on the tool boxes of the Harleys. An application filed with the U.S. Patent Office on January 30th, 1930 states that the bar and shield has been continuously used and applied to said goods in applicant's business since May 6th, 1910. Research indicates that another application was made on July 19th, 1910 presumably
