Roger.
Happened to see your web site. I have a cushman shrine eagle. this eagle was one of the last eagle made by cushman in 1966 - in 1965 cushman stopped building the eagle but was asked by a shrine club in Iowa to build 22 - this is one of the last one built. It runs good- white in color with shrine badges and flag holders. Needs a little restoration. mainly to be painted and new seat cushions. Been stored for several years. Before listing it for sale I thought I would notify a few shriner clubs. Asking 5500.00.
It would be nice to put it back in a
shriner club.

Roger,
We're dedicating the building and since we don't want to
cut a hole in
the wall for a cornerstone, we're having a plaque placed on the wall outside.
Joe is providing a cornerstone for us to use, so yes, I would indeed like to
have the Knights Templar there, since the Scottish Rite, Job's and DeMolay
will also be there. Since we're all family, it's only appropriate that you
guys are there. Thanks.

FROM GARY HAHN ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7TH, 2007
Nobles,
Due to the potential bad weather coming in later today and the forecast
for sleet and extremely cold temperatures, I've made the decision to
cancel the Hospital Patient's Christmas party for tomorrow. We cannot
afford to have our patients or their families being subjected to bad
weather just to attend a Christmas party. At this time, the party will
be rescheduled to December 22, same time and location. If the weather
is still bad at that time, the party will be cancelled in its entirety
and gifts will be delivered to each patient.
My decision was based on a conversation with Amanda Cox, Channel 10/11
weather forecaster. She indicated the snow is south of us as of right
now and is expected to move in later today, and also expected to remain
overnight. The wintry mix (including sleet) is forecasted to arrive
later in the day, and the HIGH temperature is scheduled to only be in
the low teens!
On another note, the auction scheduled for tomorrow afternoon is still a
go. So, I would like to see as many of you there as possible as we sell
parts of Sesostris that have been around for ages!

FROM GARY HAHN ON SATURDAY AUGUST 18TH, 2007
MESSAGE FROM DR. BERNARD J. LEMIEUX, IMPERIAL POTENTATE ON AUGUST 18TH, 2007
My fellow nobles:
The 133rd Imperial Council Session is now over, and it
was my privilege to be elected as the Imperial Potentate and the
Chairman of the Board of Directors of our beloved fraternity and its
philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children. Anaheim was a great host
city. Not only did we enjoy a lot of Shrine fun and fellowship, the
families had the opportunity to spend a day or two enjoying Disneyland.
The weather was perfect for this time of year, and once again, the
Shriners got to "parade their stuff" on one of the main streets in the
community, allowing us a lot of good PR.
I wish to thank all of the voting representatives for the
trust and confidence that has been placed in me, and I will do
everything in my power to ensure this organization moves successfully
through the coming year.
The Joint Boards welcomed our new Outer Guard, Gary
Bergenske from Bahia Shriners. He is an excellent addition to these
Boards; he has shown his ability to be a team player, and we all look
forward to working with him in the coming years. When his opponent Jim
Cain, Past Potentate from Al Menah Shriners conceded, voting for a
unanimous decision and announcing his candidacy for next year; he
received a standing ovation.
The voting representatives also re-elected Imperial Sir
Tad Claypool from Antioch Shriners for his second term as a Trustee, and
the same is true for Noble Bob Smith from Calam Shriners. Both of these
men have worked very hard and have helped shape a positive course of
action for our hospitals. We are gratified that the voting
representatives recognized this also, and we look forward to working
closely with them in the ensuing year. Imperial Sir Ralph Semb was also
re-elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Shriners
Hospitals.
From time to time, you will be receiving an "e-mail
blast" from me to keep you informed of what is happening throughout
Shrinedom. If, for some reason, you wish to be removed from this e-mail
distribution list, please follow the instructions below. If you would
like to respond to me with questions, suggestions, etc., feel free to
e-mail me at the following address:
Imperial_Potentate@shrinenet.org.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND OR FORWARD JOKES AND/OR PICTURE FILES. If you wish
something to remain confidential, make a note of it, and I will respect
your wishes.
The theme for this coming year is "We are Family." It is
my hope that in stressing the family image throughout the Shrine and
throughout our Masonic family, we may be able to entice new and younger
members to our fraternity.
At this past Imperial Council Session, the piece of
legislation concerning building a new hospital in London, Ontario,
Canada was defeated and we will maintain our present hospital in
Montreal.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Bernard J. Lemieux, M.D.

DON CERNY OBITUARY
EO1 Donald Cerny 78, was born September 9th, 1928 in Wahoo to Otto and Helen Cerny. He went to Grade and High School in Weston and graduated in 1947. After graduation, Don applied to Fisher Body and went to Auto Body School and completed his auto body schooling in 1948. Don served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953 aboard the USS Badoeng Strait. In 1953, Don married Mary Ann Cerny and they resided in Weston their entire life. In 1953, Don owned and operated Don Cerny Body and Paint until 2007. He manufactured his own wrecker from a Kenworth Tractor which he extended and carried a third rear axle. With this truck, Don could take on just about everything and he advertised that. He was very proud of that truck and his picture with the truck showed it. Nobles and brothers,
The New York Times newspaper ran an article on Monday, March 19, and the
Lincoln Journal Star ran an edited version of the same article on
Tuesday, March 20, questioning how monies have been handled in some
Shrine Centers and clubs. Below is the official response from the
Imperial Shrine headquarters.
Sesostris Shriners has an outstanding and deserved reputation. All
1800+ members of Sesostris have the responsibility to help maintain it.
Thank you for your efforts in this regard. The articles and this
response reminds us that the privilege of being a Shrine Mason must be
safeguarded and not taken for granted.
Fraternally,
Bill Nelson, Potentate
Sesostris Shriners
This from the Imperial Shrine Council of North America
Response to The New York Times
March 19, 2007
We value the trust and confidence of the public, and what's most
important to us is that people know how their donations are being used.
The Shriners of North America and Shriners Hospitals for Children
represent two distinct organizations.
The New York Times story was not clear about the way we separate
fundraising activities for Shriners Hospitals for Children and Shriners
of North America. The article combined funds raised to benefit Shriners
Hospitals for Children with funds raised to support operation costs of
the 191 chapters and their affiliated clubs. There are more than 3,000
Shrine clubs, and each club is affiliated with one of 191 chapters
across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Canada.
Our guidelines clearly state that when money is raised for Shriners
Hospitals for Children, 100 percent of the net proceeds must go to the
hospitals. No monies raised for Shriners Hospitals are allowed to be
used in support of fraternal activities. As long as Shriners clearly
state the beneficiary of the fundraising event, be it Shriners Hospitals
or Shriners of North America, they can hold fundraisers for either
cause.
All fundraising materials are required to clearly state the purpose for
which the funds are being raised. Fundraising policies and procedures
are distributed twice a year to all 191 chapters of Shriners of North
America. These guidelines require that a "statement of purpose" be
included on tickets, advertising, signage and other materials - making
clear whether the beneficiary of the fundraising event is Shriners
Hospitals for Children or Shriners of North America. In addition,
fraternal fundraising guidelines require a disclosure that "payments are
not deductible as charitable contributions."
Strict policies and procedures are in place regarding fundraising, and
we are always looking for ways to improve them.
For more than a year, we've been in the process of developing an
independent financial review committee. This committee will review the
way finances are handled throughout Shriners of North America.
The committee has been endorsed by Imperial Potentate Nick Thomas,
president of Shriners of North America, and I feel confident the board
of directors and trustees will approve this at their next meeting.
The Times story uses a broad brush to focus on a few incidents that are
totally unacceptable and are in no way representative of the way money
is handled at our 191 chapters and more than 3,000 clubs.
I hope the story will not deter the people who make it possible for us
to operate 22 hospitals at a cost of $2 million a day. Shriners
Hospitals for Children provide expert, specialized care at no charge to
children under the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burn injuries,
spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. Since the first hospital
opened in 1922, approximately 835,000 children have received care at
absolutely no charge.
We are very proud of what we do for children.

On Membership
This e-mail came to me by Shriners 2000. It was written by a young Noble from Karem Shrine and it made a lot of sense to me and I quote:
I don't really know how to start this email. It may be a little long so please bare with me. I have been reading all the emails lately and have only this to offer. We are members of this group to promote membership and exchange ideas on how to accomplish membership gains in our respective temples.
To give you all a little background on me; I have been a member of the
Shrine for a little over four years now, and have served as Gen. Membership
Chairman for the last two years. I am currently serving my third year in this
capacity. I joined Masonry in 1997. I was really excited about this and got
really active. I became a ritualist and earned a class A esoteric certificate
in 1998. I served as master in 2000 and went on to serve as District Masonic
Relations officer as well as lodge education officer. We have about 400 members
in my blue lodge and like most lodges about 10% are active. I also joined the
Scottish and York Rites and serve in various positions there. When I first
joined all I heard people talking bout was membership and how we were
declining. To be honest, I got tired of hearing about it.
I was asked be the Gen. Membership Chairman for Karem Shrine in 2003. I
went to the membership school in Tampa and listened to what they had to say. In
2003, Imperial started the "Year of the Shrine Mason" program. I guess I got
lucky because Karem ended that program as the #1 temple in Texas and the #13
temple in North America. I could not manage to show a positive gain for the
whole year though, and we ended up with a 2% loss in 2003. In 2004 we got a
little bit luckier and were the only temple in the state of Texas to have a
membership gain.
I found that the biggest problem in my temple was suspensions. I
realized early on that I couldn't do anything about deaths; although I did tell
all the nobles a few times that nobody was allowed to die anymore because it
made membership gains really hard. I spent many hours on the phone calling
every noble in Karem who was in danger of going suspended to try to talk them
into paying their dues. I found that personal contact is the key to retention.
It also helped that I was working with a Potentate who understood that the needs
of the members were more important than the money. We were able to identify
members who were along in years and not able to afford their dues for various
reasons. We placed these nobles on a reduced dues class which covered per
capita and the hospital assessment. In some cases we carried the nobles who
just could not afford it because of medical reasons.
In the recruitment and retention areas we tried to make our temple more
family friendly. We encourage our nobles to bring their children to our dances
and we provide child care. We have more family events and encourage nobles to
bring non-shriners and non-masons to these events so they can see what we are
about. We also have done surveys of the members to find out what they would
like to see at the shrine and have tried to incorporate those ideas into our
temple.
As far as attracting younger members, I offer this; younger members want
tradition. We have heard all about the legendary Shrine and all the stories of
how it used to be. We want the same thing; we want to make our own stories. I
say we because I recently turned 34 and consider myself a younger member. We
need to get rid of the myth that you have to be rich to be a shriner or that the
shrine is only for the elite. We want a chance to show what we can do and be
taken seriously as contributing members to the future of our fraternity.
Membership has to be the main focus of every Shrine Temple. It has to be
the main focus for the entire Masonic family. We need to do things WITH the
other bodies and involve everyone. I think that only then will be start growing
as a whole again
Thanks for listening,
Mike Turner

They also join because they know their membership in the Shrine will benefit children with orthopaedic problems and burn injuries from all across North America through their contributions and support of the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.
When Did Shrinedom Begin?
The Shrine of North America is a fraternity that grew out of Freemasonry
over a century ago, with the first Shrine Temple being Mecca Temple in New York City in
1872. Because of this, the Shrine is dedicated to Masonic principles.
The Shrine fraternity provides to Masonic brothers a means to widen the fellowship first
enjoyed in the Blue Lodge.
The Shrine offers men, their ladies and their families an opportunity to meet new friends
who have similar interests, tastes and feelings.
Do The Shriners Have Fun?
Absolutely! As a Shriner, you will be welcome to join in the social
activities of 191 Shrine Temples, or Chapters, in North America.
Because Shriners are men who enjoy life, fun is a large part of the Shrine. Shriners,
along with their ladies, their families and friends, have many opportunities to enjoy the
fun the Shrine has to offer. Activities such as parades, dances, circuses, and parties
offer something for every member of you family. Many of these fun activities help support
the Shrine hospital system.
Most Shrine Temples sponsor Shrine Clubs and special Units, such as the Motor Corps, Band
or Clown Units. There are over 30 clubs and units in Sesostris Temple, all of which invite
your participation.
What Do Shriners Do?
The heart and soul of the Shrine are Shriners Hospitals for Children.
These 22 pediatric specialty hospitals help thousands of children each year, at absolutely
no cost to the children or to their families. The hospitals help children with problems of
the bones, joints, or muscles, and children who have been severely burned. Three of the
orthopaedic hospitals also specialize in treating children with spinal cord injuries. One
Shriners Hospital, which opened in 1997 in Sacramento, CA provides orthopaedic, burn and
spinal cord injury care, plus research, in all three areas searching for cures to
crippling childhood diseases and better treatments for burn injuries.
Many Shriners take an active part in helping children by sponsoring them for treatment,
serving as hospital volunteers, or fund raising.
Who Can Join?
Any person that is a Master Mason.
How Do I Join?
If you know a Shriner, contact him and ask him to discuss what the Shrine is all about. He will help you fill out a petition to be voted on by the Shrine members. If you do not know a Shriner, contact the Shrine Center at (402) 474-6890 and they will send you information on who to contact.
What Does It Cost:
To join Sesostris Shrine there is a one time initiation fee of $150.00 and an annual fee of $75.00

SESOSTRIS SHRINE MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of Sesostris Shrine is to meet the needs of members and their families by providing quality services in the spirit of fun, fellowship, and social camaraderie. To foster self-improvement through leadership, education, and communication in order to perpetuate our moral values and community involvement. To serve mankind through the resources of our greatest philanthropy, The Shriners Hospitals of North America.

Shriners Hospital for Children - Twin Cities Unit
Shriners Hospitals for Children
The Shriners Hospitals for Children is our Philantrophy and in all of Shrinedom, It is our main reason for existing. Shriners Hospitals is a network of pediatric specialty hospitals, founded by the Shrine where Children 18 years old and under receive medical care free of charge. They will be eligible if in the opinion of the Chief of Staff, the orthopaedic or burn treatment will help the child. Each year, usually in March, in Beatrice, Nebraska, a screening clinic is set up by Sesostris Temple for the purpose of Doctors from our Hospital in Minneapolis to meet with the patients to determine if they can provide treatment that will help the child. At Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, an off premise clinic is set up to provide treatment for patients, to bring the hospital to the patients in other words. These treatments are available to all children regardless of race, religion, or relationship to a Shriner. Orthopaedic Hospitals treat congenital orthopaedic deformities, injuries or diseases of the bones, joints and muscles. Burn Hospitals are staffed and equiped to treat patients with acute burns, patients requiring plastic reconstructive and restorative surgery as a result of "healed burns", severe scaring resulting in interference of mobility of the limbs, and scaring and deformity of the face. There are 18 Orthopaedic Shriners Hospitals, Three Shriners for Children with burns, and One Hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn, and spinal cord injury care located throughout North America (20 in the U.S. and one each in Canada and Mexico). Three of the orthopaedic hospitals in Chicago, Philadelphia, Sacramento have special programs dedicated to caring for Children with Spinal Cord Injuries. The Shriners Hospitals in Boston, Cincinnati, Galveston, and Sacramento treat Children with fresh burns. Sesostris Area Hospital is the Twin Cities Unit in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Shriners Hospitals were among the first special hospitals in North America, and their pioneering efforts have earned them and international reputation in orthopaedic medicine and research. Shriners Hospitals treat children in a family-centered invironment, recognizing that while medicine might heal the child's body, tending to the child's sense of well being is equally important. In some cases, the parents are provided lodging if the child is receiving treatment at the hospitals. Therefore as the family is involved in the child's treatment, each patient finds special support in meeting the challenges of their particular problem.
The medical staffs of Shriners Hospitals include pediatricians, urologists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, geneticists, and other specialists insure care for associated medical problems. The Medical teams include physicians, nurses, physical, occupational, and recreational therapists, orthotic, and prosthetic technicians, nutritionists, gait lab specialists, and other medical personel.
If the Patients family is unable to provide transportation for one reason or another, the Patient and family is transported to the hospital by Sesostris Temple van free of charge. (See Roadrunners Page)
If anyone knows of a child who is in need of our services, or who might be helped by our doctors and hospitals, contact our Sesostris Center or a Shriner Noble or those at the bottom of this page. Our address is Sesostris Temple, 1717 Yolande Avenue, Lincoln, Nebraska 68521, Telephone - 402-474-6890.
Wings and Wheels of Hope: (This from FEZtivities) Wings & Wheels of Hope was started in 1993 by Ill. Sir Jack Lorenzen because of concern of escalating transportation costs. The program provides an opportunity for Nobles, Clubs, Units, families and individuals who share our concern for continuous funding, can give a tax deductable gift of $100 for membership. A one time gift of $1,000 will provide a lifetime gift. A perpetual membership of $500 is provided in memory of a loved one. Ill. Sir Sam Nelson, P.P.and the 1995 divan converted the Wings & Wheels fund so only the interest is used annually. The fund is growing at $20,000 per yr. Please keep your membership up to date by sending in your dues. The transportation fund is also an excellent choice for memorials.
Our system works because people care. Nobles and Ladies who are our drivers, financial gifts from dollars to complete vans continue to allow new and safe equipment. Safety in transportation is our number one concern.
PROGRAM GIVEN BY ILLUSTRIOUS SIR JACK LORENZEN,
PAST POTENTATE, SESOSTRIS TEMPLE
TO HIRAM CLUB ON 9-30-2004
On September 30th, 2004, we were very fortunate to hear from Past Potentate Jack Lorenzen of Sesostris Shrine, who presented us with an update on our New Sesostris Shrine Center.
Illustrious Sir Jack Lorenzen began by saying that in 1989, work began on building a new shrine center with Illustrious Sir Dale LeBaron, three Past Potentates, and 3 divan members. It was decided that a relocation was needed because of the flood plane, and the digester located not far away from the present location. A search for land proceeded and in Ill. Sir Dan Roth's year, 72 acres across from Hillcrest Country Club become available for $160,000 which was purchased. Building plans of app. 35,000 sq. ft. were drawn up including a building of 7200 sq. ft for housing the equipmemt.
A development firm building new apartments offered to pay us $1,058,000 cash for 52 Acres, still leaving us 15 Acres for a new Shrine Center.
So far, we have $960, 000 appraised value for our present location, and we have so far raised $540,000, and we have pledged $130,000 in kind. We are starting a Fund Raising Campaign to be finished in December, to raise $1,000,000 ,the rest of the money we need.
The time is now. we are going ahead with our building plans, he said. He urged everyone to support the project financially and volunteer to share your talents by working on the campaign.
Illustrious Sir Jack was thanked for his fine presentation.
From our Campaign Leadership this:
After 20 years we say 'Go'. We are going to build a new center. Our feasibility study shows a substantial majority of those responding favor a new facility and a new location. The study also urges us to: not overbuild, make the facility expandable, retain sizeable cash reserves, prepare budget to reflect new costs of operation versus current costs, have adequate green area for families, and finally, make the facility functional and attractive. WE AGREE. The size of the facility will be determined by the success of our campaign, building costs, and the sale of our Yolande property.
And this from our Potentate, Illustrious Sir Neil Henry:
We know that we need to recruit more Shriners. We think new facilities will help with recruitment, increase our efficiency, morale, and enhance our public exposure. Additionally, it will promote our mission, "Committed to caring". Being a Shriner and having the opportunity to being your Potentate has been a wonderful experience for Lady Alison and me. I am pleased to see this project move forward. It has been a long dream - shared by many - that now can come true.
I urge you to support this project financially to the very best of your ability, and volunteer to share your talents by working on the campaign. Our goal is to contact all Shriners and Widows in person, by mail or telephone and with your help we can provide an opportunity for everyone to participate in the compaign. The new Center will be a resource for all of our Shriners to use - from Falls City and Auburn to Norfolk and every club in between. I am convinced that this project will be an important catalyst for expanding the public's interest in all of our Sesostris Shrine Clubs and ensuring our success over the next 50 years.

THIS FROM NOBLE REED FANNING OF SHRINERS 2000
Brothers, I am not sure this word has gotten out to everyone...
In 2004, The Grand Lodge of Utah sponsored the design and production of a Tartan
fabric that would represent Freemasonry in Utah as well as elsewhere. Scottish
Tartan plaids have been used for centuries by Scottish clans as a means of
identifying and unifying families across the country. This tartan was designed
with the family of Freemasonry in mind.
Anne Carroll Gilmour, an internationally known weaver specializing in
traditional Scottish Tartan weaving, designed the pattern and submitted it to
the Scottish Tartans Authority in Perthshire, Scotland for registration. The
pattern was deemed unique and the Registration Certificate issued. A mill near
Edinburgh was then commissioned to weave the cloth in bulk.
The colors in the cloth were carefully chosen to represent the various Masonic
family organizations including but not limited to the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite,
York Rite, Shrine of North America, Job's Daughters International, DeMolay
International, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and et cetera.
The main field of blue in a prominent pivotal position represents the dome of
the universe as in Blue Lodge Masonry. The dominance of royal purple in the
opposite pivotal field represents Scottish Rite Masonry, York Rite Masonry,
Job's Daughters International and many other Masonic organizations. The
prominent red cross carries with it much symbolism used throughout Masonry. You
will also see represented the colors of the five points of the Eastern Star –
red, white, blue, green and gold/yellow as well as related colors connected with
the Social Order of the Beauceants, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the
Daughter's of the Nile and many others.
As a Scottish family's unique tartan represents that family throughout the
world, so too does the Freemason's Universal Tartan represent the family of
Freemasonry and it's goals to make this world a better place to live in.

Verse #1: Day is done - Gone the sun - From the Lakes - From the hills - From the sky. All is well - Safely rest - God is nigh. Verse #2: Fading light - Dims the sight - And a star - Gems the sky - Gleaming bright - From afar - drawing nigh - Falls the night. Verse #3: Thanks and praise - For our days - Neath the sun - Neath the stars - Neath the sky - As we go - This we know - God is nigh.
THE GEORGE WASHINGTON INAUGURAL BIBLE
Editors Note: On Saturday, January 20th, 2000, President Elect George W. Bush will be
sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States on this bible which will be hand
carried from its resting place by members of SAINT JOHN'S LODGE #1, ANCIENT YORK MASONS,
FREE and ACCEPTED MASONS of NEW YORK. You may go to Saints John Lodge of Education Page
for further History. As this New York lodge is one of the first lodges in America, It
shows us how closely our masonic lodges are related.
Editors Note: One of the best Websites on Freemasonry that this editor has had the privilege to view has come to me by a noble through Shriners 2000. Noble Scott Eastwold from El Riad Temple in Sioux Falls, South Dakota suggested we view the Website of Unity Lodge #130. They have done an excellent job of presenting Masonry to our brethern and to people at large. You my view this website by going to : http://www.unitylodge.com
From the editor: The following message has been carried on the "Our America" Page for quite some time. I believe that we should all be reminded of why we care for the Shrine and our Philanthropy. May we always temper this responsibility by peace with our Nobles and Brethren, justice, and moderation.
I have been a member of the
Odessa Shrine Club (a unit of El Maida Shrine Temple in El Paso) since 1983. I, like
many other Shriners, take for granted that everyone knows what Shriners do. However,
there has been many occasions where someone would ask me, "What do Shriners
do?" I enjoy giving them the answer.
The following is a recent article written by the El Maida Temple Potentate, Herb Austin.
I felt inclined to pass this along to the public because it expresses my thoughts.
(Editors Note: It also expresses the thoughts of many Shriners throughout North America.
Thanks Noble Kenn.)

Message from the Potentate
As we reflect on the terror that has been inflicted on our country, we share the pain and
sorrow of all the friends and families of the victims of these horrific acts. We must know
that we also lost many Brothers and Nobles of our great fraternity. We pray for them and
their families.
Someone, not of our fraternity, said to me today" I'll bet you're not too happy to be
wearing that Fez and wearing those costumes you guys wear in the parades these days."
He knew a little, very little, about our history and purpose.
I was, at first, taken aback. I thought for a minute and then proceeded to tell him about
us. I told him that this great and noble fraternity was formed by a group of fun loving
masons for the purpose of fun. These founders chose to pattern the fraternity after
the characters of Arabic. There was history and mystery and tradition involved. The
scimitar, crescent moon, sphinx's head and star, were assembled as our symbol. Our
characters were patterned after Arabic and Muslim characters. Our greetings are of
peace and brotherhood. As we grew we had brass bands, marching units, Oriental bands and
clowns. And we had fun. But, we needed a purpose. We then formed a
hospital for children. It grew and grew and we added more and more hospitals and
took care of crippled children and burned children. We set the standard and
pioneered the technology for treating burned children. We were at the forefront of
techniques and procedures for orthopedics. Now we had a purpose and we had fun.
"Fun with a Purpose"
We have members of our great fraternity from all nationalities, ethnic backgrounds and
religions. They are good and decent people. They are my friends and brothers.
Psychotic murderers, who happened to be from the Middle East, performed the despicable
deeds of September 11.
Just because we wear costumes and regalia from another part of the world in our fun and
frivolity in no way indicates any sympathies with radical causes, just as it does not
connect those good and decent citizens in this country with ethnic backgrounds to those
causes. We are Masons and Shriners
and we help children.
Yes, I told the fellow, I am happy, very happy to wear that red fez at this or anytime.
And I am happy to tell our story of how we help kids, over and over so that people
look past our garb and look into our hearts, inspect our deeds and know what we are about.
He looked down, then up at me, apologized for his remarks, and asked how he might become
worthy enough to wear the red fez and help the kids.
Let us have the strength and character to tell our story and be proud of who we are and
what we do. We must not let ignorance and prejudice help further the cause of those
fanatical few who would bring us down. God Bless America.

A Penny
I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground
But its just not a penny
This little coin I've found
Found pennies come from heaven
That's what my Grandpa told me,
He said angels toss them down
Oh, how I loved that story
He said when an angel misses you
They toss a penny down,
Sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile out of your frown
So don't pass by that penny
When your feeling blue,
It may be a penny from heaven
From an Angel who cares
About You.
