     PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS

This picture was taken of some of the PGR-ALR Riders, their motorcycles, and their families on the road in front of the Air and Space Museum of Platte River State Park

To My Patriot Guard Riders Brothers & Sisters:

I know that many of you are not Masons but some of us are. Many of us ride for the same purpose, that being veterans of one service or another or wanting to show our support for our Country and serving in any way we can for the veterans who are putting themselves in harms way, and their families. These are the same ideals that we as Masons and Shriners share with everyone.

This editor hopes that this website will be meaningful for everyone concerned. This is my private website and in order for us to keep communicating freely, between our many groups, and keep up to date, it requires many changes. Please accept this way of communicating without any animosity. We are all in this together. I will try to remove all e-mail addresses unless that person wants his or her e-mail address left on. If, by chance, an e-mail address gets through and you want it removed, please let me know because of spam or other reasons.

Motorcycle Riders are a part of a very large brotherhood not unlike our Masonic community. Try riding down the highway without waving at each other as we meet. If one does not see the other and does not wave, we feel badly, but we tell ourselves he or she had something else on their mind. Such as it is when we get together for a meeting, ride, or whatever, we renew our friendship or meet new friends and usually the topic is motorcycles or the trips we have taken since we saw each other last.

Now we have other obligations to concern ourselves that include Duty, Honor, and Country and for servicemen and service ladies who are putting their lives on the line for us and for their country. Together, may we do everything in our power to be there for them when they need us most.

Roger Miner, Editor

Fallen Heroes and Families Appreciation Day, September 28

On Sunday, September 28, 2008, from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. in Independence Square, the City of Ralston will be hosting a Fallen Heroes and Families Appreciation Day. The day will focus on the sacrifices of our service members who have died over the past few years in various wars and conflicts around the world protecting our freedoms. In addition to the sacrifices of the service members, the City will recognize the families for their role in their service members' lives and the support they provided which allowed their loved ones to serve.

All families of service members from Nebraska are invited to this special day. Besides being a day of appreciation, this will allow families who have experienced a loss as the result of the war to come together for support and sharing.

During the ceremony, the names of the service members will be read and a bell will be struck in their honor by our own PGR member Jack Kaufmann. The public is invited to attend and share this day as well as show support to the families.

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the City of Ralston to participate in this event. This is a good opportunity for the PGR to be able to continue to honor and respect the families of our Fallen Warriors.

FROM SCOTT KNUDSEN ON SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2008

Boy Scout tornado victims

The Patriot Guard Riders of Nebraska send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the Boy Scouts that lost their lives and to all that were affected by the tornado at the Boy Scout Camp in Iowa. Please know you each have our full support as we share your deep sorrow mourning the loss and celebrating the all too short vibrant and promising lives of these extraordinary young men.

The Patriot Guard Riders are individually and collectively infuriated and outraged concerning the announced demonstrations in Omaha and West Point Nebraska by the misguided, misinformed, deplorable, attention seeking protestors from Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas.

The Patriot Guard Riders feel the presence of this shameful group is despicable and appalling.

While we recognize the public’s perception of our activity, any gathering of the PGR would be substantially beyond and contrary to our primary, military connected mission and may even produce the unintended effect of drawing attention away from the victims.

The Patriot Guard Riders will not be acknowledging these disgusting protestors with any official organized participation.

Members are encouraged to post their condolences on the Nebraska Forum at  www.patriotguard.org

To All Nebraska PGR Members:                                                                                                                      April 2, 2008

On January 1, 2008, I stepped down as Nebraska State Captain of the Patriot Guard Riders for health & personal reasons. On that date, Scott Knudsen assumed my former position. Therefore, any & all discussions, requests, comments, etc. need to be directed to him rather than to me. He can be reached by email at jscottknudsen@hotmail.com; by phone at (402)991-3113 or cell (402)680-7598.

After asking Scott to notify the membership of this change a number of times, I find that I have to take it upon myself to go to the moderators to insure that all PGR members know to whom to direct their inquiries. I do this to facilitate a prompt response from the State Captain to the membership, so that all of your requests and questions can be answered by him. Some ask questions of me for which I have no answers, so this is why you need to know who is in the position as State Captain.

Please be assured that I welcome any emails from the membership as long as they do not relate to anything having to do with the duties and responsibilities of the present State Captain. Those should be directed to Scott.

It has been an honor to be the Nebraska State Captain. You can be sure that it took something quite serious for me to give up that position. However, I will continue to attend missions & do everything I can to honor our fallen heroes & their families. I look forward to seeing you all at the next mission, which, hopefully, will be a joyous homecoming.

CALL FOR HELP

FOR

DENNIS EDWARDS

( CHAPLIN FOR THE PGR)

JANUARY 19,2008

I have just been contacted by Shirley Edwards tonight, and was told that she almost lost Dennis at the hospital on Wed night. They had to perform CPR to get him going again. They transported to Midlands hospital for testing, and found what was to be believed a blood infection
His blood count is down to 0, so he is back in isolation again at the VA, they have discovered some type of infection in his blood, which is making it hard to combat the infection.
As of tonight, he is resting comfortably, and God only knows what lies in store for him.
I have cleared it through Scott, the new State Captain to ask for the PGR riders to all come together and help where we can. As of right now, Shirley and Dennis could use some financial help. I know this comes shortly behind the donation for the Harris family, but they need what you find in your heart to offer them.
I have volunteered to receive the monies, and pass them along to Dennis and his wife Shirley. Please keep in mind that he has a tough road to hoe here, and could take some time. Please join with me and Pam in helping them both out.

Please send any donations to:

FROM PAM AND CLIFF LEACH ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26TH, 2007

 HAPPY NEW YEAR

TO

ALL NEBRASKA PGR MEMBERS

As we come to the close of this year, I feel compelled to write all of you, to let you know how special this year has been to Pam and me.
We have all come together to be a special part of our fallen soldiers families, and in some way or another, let them know that we care for them, and will not let them be dishonored in any way. We have become close to them knowing that we are compassionate for their feelings, and honor their loss. When our members answer the call to attend a service of the fallen, and come from all over the state to be there for that family, it gives me a sense of pride that goes far beyond all comprehension.
Since this Christmas is my last as your State Captain, I want to tell you how appreciative Pam and I are of your compassion, love, and honor. We have been very blessed in the last 18 months of being able to serve in this organization. As I have stated before, we have new friends and relationships that will last for a lifetime. We are sad that we will not be working with families directly, but hopefully we won’t have any to work with unless it’s a homecoming or deployment mission. Your loyalty to us goes far beyond what we would have ever expected. Your dedication to honor the families leaves me breathless, but with so much pride, as I know that we have never been associated with such fine outstanding people like you in our lives. I have tried to explain to Pam throughout the years that there is a “special bond” between vets, and she has finally seen and felt what this feeling is like. With the PGR it goes one step further, it puts vets and civilians alike together for one reason, and that is HONOR.------------- It is the “Right Thing To Do”.
We wish you all the best for the New Year, and look forward to seeing you all again, and will be so proud to be on the line with you all. My health is good, Pam’s is good, what more could I ask for. We pray each and everyday for the speedy recovery of our dear friend Dennis the Chaplin, and all of the PGR members of Nebraska who have been ill this year, including our Adopted Family, the Harris’s of Columbus.
May Honor and Respect be with you the rest of the days of our lives.
Cliff and Pam Leach

To all Nebraska members of the PGR,                                          December 7th, 2007

Last month I was forced to make a decision that truly is the hardest decision I have made in my life. I have decided to step down as your State Captain, and let someone else take the reins. My decision is based strictly on job and health reasons. I suffered a minor heart attack in early October, and have been faced with “slowing down” a little, and relieving some stress.

My resignation will take effect on January 1, 2008. Until then, I will do missions and events as I can. I have two missions that I wanted to accomplish before I leave, and one is a street dedication to Matthew Alexander of Gretna Ne. The city council has approved it, the sign has been made, and the date has been set for December 16th, 2007 at 2:00 in the afternoon. Details will be sent out this week-end. The other mission was the Homecoming for the 755th Chemical Unit which took place last Wed in Lincoln. As you know we have attended the funerals of two from that unit, and we escorted that unit to Camp Ashland over a year ago. I sent a flag to Lt Chuck McWilliams and he had his unit sign it. I had all who attend the Homecoming sign the flag, and present it back to him upon their arrival home ceremony.

The last eighteen months have been the greatest thing that has happened to me in my life other than my marriage to my wife Pam (41 years), and the birth of my 2 children, Sean and Michelle. Pam and I have met the most wonderful people, and have gained new friendships that will last forever, members of the PGR and families of the fallen. We have been truly blessed by having dedicated people that have the same feeling of respect and honor that we do. I have always said that when it comes to any state having respectful and dedicated members, you don’t have to go any further than right here in Nebraska. By your attendance, loyalty, respect, and honor, you have shown that you are the best there is.

Pam and I look forward to standing with you all in the flag line, but hope it is always for a Homecoming. We love the PGR members, what we all stand for, and the respect you show for the families and the fallen.

A new State Captain has been selected, and his name is Scott Knudsen of Omaha. Scott is very dedicated to the PGR, and I believe will continue on our proud tradition with respect and Honor. His information will be posted out to you as soon as possible, until then, if you have any questions, please feel free to write or call me of Scott.

I have had the Honor of serving with “THE BEST

Will miss being your Captain,

Cliff and Pam Leach

EXPLANATION OF WHAT A VETERAN IS

It is the Veteran, not the minister who has given us the freedom of religion
It is the Veteran, not the newspaper reporter that has given us the freedom of the press.
It is the Veteran, not the Poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It is the Veteran, not the Organizer who has given us the freedom to assemble as a group or organization.
It is the Veteran not the Lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Veteran, not the politician who has given us the right to Vote.
It is the Veteran, who proudly salutes the flag
It is the Veteran who serves his country under the flag.
It is the Veteran, and all those men and women serving in the Armed Forces today, -------and all previous wars ------that have protected these rights, in order that all of us here today can enjoy the FREEDOMS that we have.

I posted this on the PGR Web site but am hopeful our ALR members can participate too. Would you please send out to ALR members and pass along to Omaha and Norfolk chapters? Thanks.

Here’s the message:

Any Eastern or Central Nebraska and Western Iowa riders who are interested in attending this mission, I will be leaving Lincoln from Shoemakers Truck Stop on West O Street Friday morning, Oct 12 at 7:30 a.m. Next stop will be Bosselman's Truck Stop in Grand Island at approximately 9:00 a.m. Next stop will be Lexington at approximately 10:30 a.m. Next stop at the Community College Auditorium at North Platte at approximately 12 noon.

Following the welcome home festivities in North Platte, I will help escort/accompany the 1074th soldiers from North Platte to Sidney.

Any and all interested riders or cages are welcome to ride along. The people of Sidney and many PGR members there are planning a large welcome home celebration for their soldiers. It would be appropriate for a large ALR turnout from other areas of the state to help welcome the 1074th home.

Additionally, ALR members/friends from our neighboring chapters are more than welcome.  Questions? Contact me at 402-560-3178.

FROM BOB SELZER ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2007

Cecilia,

Proud to know you. Proud to watch you jump and appreciative to be able to participate in this worthy cause. Ya done good, Girl!!

Selzer sends.

Subject: I'm very much alive after a glorious parachute jump

I have to tell you that there were wonderful moments during the fall.  Better yet, I'm finding out how many people were keeping me in mind and are involved in what is going on, which is a pleasant feeling.  My dad and brother drove 3 1/2 hours to arrive, watch, and then drove 3 1/2 hours back.  Their and your support is cherished.

I have a video that Chuck commissioned (--a surprise for me!).  Chuck also set everything up, especially for me to have a great time as we were doing this work to share about MS and to share where we think support should be sent.  It all worked!  Chuck and I had a beautiful time.  I had originally called my brother John to see if the jump would be difficult.  He's an Airborne officer, soon to redeploy to Iraq--after he becomes a new father this month!  Since he encouraged me (saying it was much better than parachuting in the Army), I also thanked him very much today.

Anyway, if you would like to see this cool video, I would like to put a copy of the video in the mail for you.  I was nervous about it all, but you will see that I could not wipe the grin off of my face.  You will see what it looked like at 10,000 feet.  It's a quite view of my new home town of Lincoln from the air.  You will see me thank Chuck very much for being such a catalyst.  He's obviously very much there for me.  He ran from his drop spot over to mine to inspect and then protect me from the heat and sun.  (I get to be his "balance", especially when on a motorcycle.)  He always says that we will take this MS and our lives head-on and together.  Any other choice is not acceptable, especially for a Marine.

Finally, if anyone is still asking around and finding people who have MS in their lives:  a number of us here in Lincoln really like Mayo Clinic because they have chosen good topics for their research.  Furthermore, Mayo will show you exactly where your money goes:  it's for research.

For a couple of more weeks, Chuck, Kim and I are still collecting $10 checks written out to Mayo Clinic MS Research.  After all, Kim Brown, who puts together our very successful Annual MS Poker Run, will probably be personally participating in Mayo's re-myelinization research this year.  How perfect.

We had a gorgeous day.  Perfect for jumping out of planes.  Perfect for riding motorcycles.  More than 430 bikes participated.

So please send me your desire to have a video and your mailing address if I don't have it already!

Here is the address to send any $10 checks:
MS Research (Mayo Clinic) / Parachute Demo and Poker Run
Chair:  Kim Brown
715 Glacier Trail
Lincoln, NE  68521

with love,
Cecilia (and Chuck too)

P.S.  I'm trying to send this to everyone that I've already contacted and people that I should have already contacted.  If you know anyone I have no email address for, please forward it.  And please do me a big favor:  if your name is not showing in the To: category of this email, but have already sent donation checks in to Kim, please let me know!!!  I want to send thank you notes through the mail to each and every one--help me out!

P.P.S.  Heads up for next September:  start gathering together your $10 and others' $10 checks for September 2008.  I want to accompany Chuck's speech with CELLO MUSIC as we present all that we have brought together in 2008.  Chuck will jump again, of course.  (I will jump again with my brother when he gets back from Iraq.)  I promise to send information on the Lincoln NE MS Poker Run by next mid-summer.  Plan to come on out!

To assure that he has enough food, he would like for everyone who is attending to E-Mail him personally at
redknight6@hotmail.com
I would ask that we have a good turnout for this dedication. In August 2006, Joshua Ford was laid to rest in Pender. His father who is a school teacher in Pender has since joined the PGR, and purchased a motorcycle, and rides with us at almost every mission.
Please join with me in celebrating this dedication, as the city govt is not doing any part of this ceremony, so it is imperative that we have a strong PGR showing of respect to Mr. Ford, his family, and the town of Pender.

FAMILIES OF FALLEN SOLDIERS

PGR APPRECIATION DAY

RIDE OF HONOR

“FINAL ITINERARY”

Updated September 6, 2007

We have been asked to attend a celebration by the City of Ralston, and from Ron Murtaugh, to come and recognize the families of the fallen soldiers from Nebraska, and to join in a salute to them all. Several families have asked to meet the PGR, so this is our chance to meet them, and Honor their sacrifice. Below you will find a list of scheduled speakers and dedications that will take place at this ceremony.

Staging: 11:45-PGR will stage up at 72 St, and Harrison behind the Phillips 66 gas station on the North west corner. There is a shopping mall which is closed on Sundays, so it has a huge lot.(all gold star Dad’s or Mom’s that are riding need to contact me as to your placement in the escort). All riders bring your big bike flags. The only flags that the PGR will be bringing will be our individual service flags. (Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force, POW, and Coast Guard). Please come in from the North on 72 St, so you can pull into the lot easily, otherwise you have to go to another intersection to turn around.

NOTE:

1:50- Remarks/Presentations-Cliff Leach State Captain, PGR
2:15- reading of Proclamation from the City of Ralston
2:25- Reading of the names of the fallen soldiers with the bell being rung after each name.

2:50- Social time for families and PGR riders.
Refreshments (pop, water etc will be furnished by the City of Ralston).

This is a great distinction that we have been asked to attend this ceremony, as it is something that most of the families have asked for. I am personally proud that they would like to meet the PGR riders, who have honored most of their Hero’s sons and daughters, husbands and wives.
I would ask that we try and have as much participation as we can for this day, to show our respect to the families, and let them know that we are with them always.
The City of Ralston has gone beyond the call of duty for doing this, and I cant begin to Thank them and Ron Murtaugh (PGR rider)(Deputy Police Chief) enough for putting this Ride of Honor on for us and the Families. This is a “RAIN OR SHINE” event; Alternate rain location will be the Ralston High School, 87th and Park Drive.
Please monitor “Honor Missions” on the PGR Threads, for updates and changes.
We have 2 weeks to plan, so mark it on your calendar to attend. This is our opportunity to “Ride In Honor”.

SATURDAY AUGUST 18, 2007

                                                                              OMAHA NEBRASKA

Date of Mission: AUGUST 18, 2007 (SATURDAY)

Ceremony Location: Burke High School, 120th Dodge St

Town: OMAHA, NEBRASKA

Riders Assembly Point and Time :

We have a real obstacle here, in that we are coming through Omaha on Sat afternoon at about 12:00, with only 9 police total, 4 Omaha, 3 Bellevue , two from Council Bluffs and one squad car as a follow vehicle. We are required to limit the number of our bikes to only 50 for this escort mission, and no cages, due to police request. 2 up, 60 mph, rush hour, they want it this way, they will have it.

I am requesting that all other bikes, cars etc, please go to Burke High school and hold flags for the arrival and homecoming. Please be at the High School by 11:45 to get set up.

ESCORT: The escort will be for all family members that have someone in this unit. Direct family ONLY, AND GOLD STAR DADS/MOMS You have to notify me by (THURSDAY EVENING 5:00 P.M, via email VSTARRIDER03@MSN.COM to insure your spot in the escort. YOU WILL BE GIVEN STAGING INFORMATION AS SOON AS YOU CONTACT ME. Mission Ride:

As I stated, only escort bikes limited to 50 will be leading or following the buses into Omaha. Please bear with me on this one, it is the request of the police due to traffic flow, and we all know what Omaha drivers are like--------, so lets make this a safe and respectful ride for all.

Families of soldiers:

There are about 80 soldiers coming home in this Unit, and their families will be waiting their arrival at Burke High School. Lets show them how much we respect their soldiers service, by Honoring them with Hospitality and Patriotism.

HOMECOMING MISSION

FOR

734TH TRANSPORTATION CO.

KEARNEY NEBRASKA

AUGUST 10TH, 2007

UPDATED AUGUST 8, 2007 9:30 P.M.

(SHORT NOTICE)

MISSION TIME: 10:00 CEREMONY

ARRIVAL TIME OF BUSES: APPROX 9:30 -10:00 (KEARNEY)

MSSION DATE: AUGUST 10TH, (FRIDAY MORNING)

The coming home ceremony for the 734th will be held at 10 a.m. at the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA), 2401 Central Avenue, Kearney, NE. We will be escorting two busses from the on-ramp on I-80. There will be 12 bikes leading the busses, and the remainder of the group will follow behind the busses. This escort will fall in with the busses as they are traveling on the interstate, so if anyone is uncomfortable with this, please go ahead to the museum and wait for the rest of us there.

If there is anyone that could take flags from Grand Island to the museum and set up a flag line please let me know. They are not in a trailer, so they can be taken in a pickup or suburban, or any other vehicle that can handle 8-foot poles. If someone can transport flags, the riders that choose not to be in the escort and anyone driving cages (cars, etc.) can have a flag line ready at the museum when the soldiers arrive. It would be a nice addition to the escort. We are asking that cages not be a part of this escort for safety reasons. It is too easy to confuse the regular motorists on the interstate with vehicles in the escort. I’m sure everyone can understand that safety is number one. We will have some help from law enforcement, but as always, if they have an emergency call we will be on our own.

STAGING:

TIME: Rider’s Assembly 8:30 a.m.

PLACE: Exit #279 (Minden Exit) at the gas station on Northwest quadrant (This is about 6 miles east of the Kearney exit)

RIDER’S MEETING: 9:00 a.m. then assemble on the ramp to wait for the busses.

The busses are expected to be at our exit at between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. someone will call me from Lincoln so we have an idea of their progress.

My apologies for not getting this out to you all in a more timely fashion, but we don’t want to put information out until its firm so we don’t have to deal with changes at the last minute. I appreciate your patience and support, and look forward to working with you all at this happy event.

Commander Ron,
Sgt. Jacob Schmuecker's brother Chris came to see me after Jacob's funeral was over. He was still in uniform and had just left the cemetery not long before. I gave him a hug and he held on so tight for a few seconds. When I looked at him I realized that you can really see a broken heart on a person's face especially through their sadden eyes. Chris loves motorcycles and talked of the American Legion Riders and Patriot Guard Riders and how much it meant to him and Jacob's entire family that they were there. I wanted to do something for Jacob's family so I wrote this poem and wish to dedicate it to them and all of our fallen servicemen and their families. If you approve please forward to our American Legion Rider members or anyone else you might know that would like to read this because the ALR and Patriot Guard Riders are as much of an inspiration to me as anything has ever been in my life.
Thank you Sir,
George Warrick

                       The Gate
The soldier stood silently before the gate
Not knowing until now what had been his fate
With great courage he asked "May I go through"
But St. Peter said "No, this gate's not for you"
"I don't understand" the soldier replied
"I fought for my country and for freedom I died"

St. Peter pointed and said "You will know soon"
"Just follow the sound of the bag piper's tune"

The soldier then did as he had been told
And walked down the path made of silver and gold

He walked toward the music the piper did play
And soon saw a bright light to show him the way

When he finally arrived the great light surrounded a man
With scars on his side, his feet and his hands

The Lord said "Come through my son, it's time that you rest"
And He hugged the young soldier and put his head on his chest

After awhile the Lord said "Be proud of your life, you lived by honor, duty and great sacrifice"
"Here in my Kingdom I will show you the way, and all of your loved ones will join you someday"

The soldier asked "Lord, why did I not enter where most of those do?"
The Lord then said "Because this is the Gate only heroes come through"

THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR CWO. CHRIS ALLGAIER

A Poem and a Prayer by St. Francis De Sales

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow,
the same loving Father who cares for you today,
will care for you tomorrow and every day.

Either He will shield you from suffering,
or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace, then, and put aside all
anxious thoughts and imaginings.

Christopher M. Allgaier was born on July 25th, 1973 and passed away on May 30th, 2007 at the age of 33 years while serving his country. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sally. A Memorial Mass by Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church was performed at 118th Pacific Street in Omaha on Tuesday, June 12th, 2007. Full Military Honors were given by Benson VFW Post #2503.

Patriot Guard Riders were there from many parts of Nebraska to show support for our fallen Hero and his family and many friends and neighbors and Military Veterans were there to honor Chris and his family. Saint Roberts is a very beautiful and large church which was almost full.

The service began with the organ playing "Amazing Grace" after which the congregation sang "America the Beautiful". A Prayer for Chris was given from the Book of Isaiah after which the congregation sang "On Eagles Wings". A reading was given by Paul's letter to the Philippians concerning the lessons of the Lord. Then from the Book of St. John a reading was given " Love One Another as I have Loved You".

This from Father Don Shane, Pastor of Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish, who knew Chris very well, gave the Eulogy. Chris lived in Omaha with his family and attended Creighton Prep and graduated in 1991 with a 4.0 grade point average. He attended Saint Louis University and become interested in flying. He then attended Parks Aeronautical College and afterward he joined the Army where he attended Flight School at Fort Rucker Alabama. He served 18 months in Hawaii. He made Chief Warrant Officer and graduated top of his class. At flight school he chose the Chinook CH47 Helicopter. He was assigned to Korea then back to Fort Bragg then North Afghanistan where he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. Then he was assigned to Iraq after which he proceeded to Fort Brag, then to Afghanistan for a second tour.

On the night of May 30th, He did a preflight check of the Chinook and loaded 40 soldiers for a mission against the Taliban and after dropping off his soldiers he was hit with an RPG that took his Helicopter down with 5 men and one Canadian aboard. Today we say thank you for all of your sacrifices.

He communicated every other week to his family at home by e-mail. As he made Army his life, he tried to stay as close to his family as he could. As his family listened to CNN on May 30th, They said an Army Chinook went down, and a little later a representative of the Army came to their door and informed them that Chris had paid the ultimate sacrifice.

His comrades in arms said of him that he did not let any details get away from him . Sometimes his demeanor was such that when he was kidding they did not know he was kidding and he had to convince them by a slight smile. Chris had a calm personality and led by example and did things the right way. He led by example and he did not realize it. He knew that it was the right thing to do. He was one of the happiest persons in the world because he tried to live his life as he wanted to, not because of what anyone wanted him to. As said a soldier who served with him for 5 years, "He never met a man he did not like". He was such an asset to the flippers because of his attitude and attention to detail. Anything he did that he was interested in he jumped in with both feet. He excelled as a student because he did not let anything get away from him. In the Army, it is necessary to lead by example. Chris was the epitome of leading by example.

From Father Don Shane: We celebrate with Chris and his family and our hearts go out to you. Thanks to this assembly for being here and we ask that all flags be at half-staff. We love this country and those who choose to put themselves in harms way.

This is from a letter from the Commanding Officer at Fort Bragg to the family. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Chris excelled as Pilot-in Command. He was a true leader, a soldier, and a great American. He wore his uniform proudly. He was a very bright and exceptional man. I hope you will find comfort in knowing that he served his country with pride.

From Father Don: We think of things of the heart worth dying for, Life, Honor, and the pursuit of Happiness, all provided by God to each person. We thank you, God, for all of our emergency personal and the military who give of themselves and put themselves in harms way. We thank the Patriot Guard assembled outside, some who have rode for many miles to get here. Many are veterans who have previously put their lives on the line and many are grass roots people who believe in what our country stands for. The Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard, and Air Force and all military units are grateful for their service.

Chris lived in Omaha with his parents and family while attending Creighton Prep. Chris learned from God, country, and family what he should pass on as he lived his life and show his love for his country. He learned that freedom is more than life itself, and show respect for all human beings. We are honored to be here, Father, but sad. We love you God, and our country, all at the same time. Bless the family, wife Jennie, and children, Natalie, Gina, and Joanna, father Bob, brother Rob, and sister Sharon, who will have closure at Arlington, Amen.

Then Father Don Shane asked the representatives of all the services to come forward and present their gifts. Then the Battle Hymn of the Republic was sung by the assemblage. Afterward, Communion was held.  (pictures to follow).

UPDATE FOR

SPC WILLIAM BAILEY

BELLEVUE NE

SATURDAY ARRIVAL SCHEDULE

UPDATED JUNE 1, 2007 5:30 P.M.

This is for the first part of this mission, and only the first part. Spc Bailey will be coming home on Saturday June 2 at 12:30 P.M. He will be arriving at Offutt AFB, and then go to the Bellevue Memorial Chapel, where honors will be given.

There are quite a few people along with the Bellevue Fire Dept that are all involved in this funeral. For that reason, we are limited to the riders I can take into the base. I will have only 9 to go in and escort Spc Bailey and the family back to the chapel along with Police & Fire units. The PGR riders have been asked to be at the Bellevue Chapel and hold our flags high for them as they come in.

Everyone other than the escort detail is to meet at the Bellevue Christian Center at 11:30 A.M. with a departure time of 11:45 to 12:00 and go to the Chapel. Map attached

http://www.bellevuechristian.com/directions.html. Herb will be there with flags, and Tommy Thompson will lead riders to the chapel.

Part Two of this mission will be updated by tomorrow, and all arrangements will be posted by Saturday. I hope you all will understand that information is day by day on this mission, and sometimes a little confusing, so bear with me, I am putting this all together as fast as I can, but I am having to put it together in sections, so please bear with me as it all comes together.

I know that this is short notice, but your attendance at the mortuary will be greatly appreciated by the family as William was a fellow motorcyclist, and his family would love to see everyone there for them.

THIS FROM OUR STATE CAPTAIN CLIFF LEACH ON MAY 26TH, 2007

MEMORIAL DAY

2007

This holiday marks the anniversary for me as the State Captain here in Nebraska. Mike Smith and I worked on the funeral for Calvin Allen that week-end as he handed off the baton at that mission, and it was truly a milestone in my life.

I have said it once, and I will say it again, I am humbled every time I come to a mission, to see all of you that come to pay your respects and honor our soldiers. You come from all walks of life, different MC clubs, organizations, groups of veterans and associations, military, ex and present, and some civilians. You all come under the "umbrella" of the PGR which makes this all so great. We all come to "Do The Right Thing".

I stopped in Gretna last night as I am preparing for the Deployment Ceremony run next week. I had the pleasure of stopping by and talking with the Alexander family (mom and dad). I wanted to see how they were doing, and reminisce about last week. I have to pass this along to you, as it struck home with me. They told me that when they came to the airport when Matthew got home, they felt as if they all alone until they saw the PGR riders waiting for them to escort them to Gretna. The ride home was one of solitude knowing that they were in good hands with us and the police. The reality of respect was when they came around the corner of Hwy31 towards the Mortuary, and saw all the flags and PGR that were awaiting their arrival. They knew that Matthew and the family would be taken care of at that moment.

They were struck by the complete  Honor and respect of everyone that was shown to them and Matthew, by all of the riders and the townspeople the day of the funeral. Upon the arrival at the cemetery, they remarked that the flags and people in the circle was so moving, it was hard to imagine this funeral without us being there. They wanted me to pass along their most heartfelt gratitude for us being there for them. I did try and remind them, that we do what we do for them, not us. Mel made the remark that if we were not there, things would not have been the same. They felt like they have gained a new "extended family". They are great people, and they are so proud of their son, who is a true American Hero.

With all this in mind, I want to again "Thank" all of you for for what you do. We are doing the right thing, and I am very proud to be your State Captain, and honor you as veterans, civilians, riders or drivers in our quest to "Do The Right Thing".

See You Again,

Cliff Leach

FINAL ITINERARY FOR

CPL MATTHEW ALEXANDER

DATE OF UPDATE_MAY 14,2007

GRETNA, NEBRASKA

Mission Time:2:30 P.M.

Date of Mission: MAY 18,2007 (FRIDAY)

Funeral Location: GRETNA HIGH SCHOOL

Town: GRETNA, NE

Riders Assembly Point and Time in Gretna: 12:15 at the Flying J Truck Stop. Hwy 31 and I-80. Riders Mtg at 12:45, with clutches out at 1:00 P.M SHARP. There will be a detail at the Church in Gretna, and the family will be escorted to the school at approx 1:30. Everyone is to go to the school where flags for the flag line will be located. Water will be available for all.

Mission Ride:

At the start of the service, flags are to be put away in the flag vehicle, for transport to the cemetery. Due to the involvement by the PGR to help with parking arrangements at the cemetery, they (flag vehicles and 10 PGR riders) will leave immediately. Because of the location and smallness of the cemetery, we will have all the bikes except for the escort bikes go directly to the cemetery to await the arrival of the family. You will see the importance of this once you arrive at the cemetery.

Mission Family:

CPL Matthew Alexander leaves behind a wife Kara, a father Melvin and mother Monica, of Gretna and brother Marshall of Omaha

Mission Politics: It is our policy to shield the family against unwanted interference, by placing a sea of flags at the site. Please hold one of our flags to show respect for the fallen soldier and his or her family. Ride Captains will be available for proper flag protocol and placement.

Mission Ride Captain:

Ride Captain will be Dennis Edwards, who is also the PGR chaplain. If you have any questions regarding this mission, please contact me. Other RC’s will be available if you have any questions at the service.

Ride to Gretna:

Please use Google or map quest for directions to the Flying J Truck stop in Gretna. There is a short distance from the staging point to the school, but the family will be arriving soon after the arrival of the PGR at the school, so it is important that everyone get to “the school on time” in order to set up the flag line. Wasn’t there a song about that???

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR 1ST LT. KEVIN JOHN GASPERS

1st Lt. Kevin John Gaspers was born April 8th, 1981in Hastings, Nebraska the son of John and Pam Gaspers. He graduated St. Cecilia's High School in 2000 where he was on the honor roll and the football and wrestling teams. In 2005 he earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from U.N.L. where he was a Cadet Battalion Commander in the ROTC. He joined the Army in May 2005. He completed the Scout Platoon Leader Course and the Armor Officer Basic Course in 2005. He completed the Basic Airborne Course in Fort Benning, Ga. in 2002.Gaspers reported to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Calvary Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division in December 2005.Said Sergeant William Fleming a team leader who served with Kevin in Iraq, "Lt. Gaspers was a soft spoken professional and stellar officer. I don't think he ever slept. He was always checking on his men and getting them ready for the next mission. Kevin was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He loved his family, working with his dad and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. 1st Lt. Kevin John Gaspers of Fort Bragg North Carolina formerly of Hastings, Nebraska was killed in action in Sadah, Iraq on April 23rd, 2007.

Kevin  was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Lida Gaspers and an Uncle, Chuck Trouba.. Survivors include his parents John and Pam Gaspers of Hastings, his Sisters Katie Gaspers of Omaha, and Audrey Gaspers living at home, Grandmother Phyllis Lloyd of Alma, Ne. and Grandfather Paul Gaspers of Lindsay, Ne.

The Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:30 a.m. after an Award Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on May 4th, 2007 at Saint Cecilia's West Gym. A fine chorus and musicians lead the singing. Officiating were Father's Michael Houlihan and James Meysenburg.  The service began with a video of Kevin and his life since a child. He was always fascinated by service to guard and do his best for his country. From the Priest; All of the people are here because of love of Country, Kevin, and Kevin's family.

From his Priest who knew him very well; When Kevin came back on furlough, He spent time with his childhood school in Alma. The kids always enjoyed seeing him. After his visit to his school all the kids cried "We love you, Kevin."  His father said he was always a quiet kid. He would of made a great father. His father said he always tried to be like his son.

Next was a reading of "Sermon on the Mount". Some of the principles of the Sermon on the Mount are "do not settle for what you can do but let your heart and soul lead the way. When ever you can do for others. Bless those who mourn for they will be comforted. We need Christ to seek to do what is honorable and to know what is important like Duty, Honor, Country. Kevin was mature beyond his years, a teacher for all who knew him and knew what sacrifice meant. GOD took Kevin from the earth to a world of eternal joy, to a building not made with hands eternal in the heavens."

Again from the Priest: Kevin was very humble, very quiet. It was a great joy knowing him. Faith was a fabric of his being. Once a month he needed to have mass or he missed it very much. He loved his family. Kevin idolized his father. He did not like to criticize others. He loved his sisters very much. He was very proud of Katie and Audrey's last words to her brother after a telephone conversation to her brother when he said "He loved her" and she said in return, " I love you, too."

Kevin loved his school, Saint Cecilia. His Priest was honored to have known him. He was good at wrestling and he loved Math and loved his country. He loved his fellow soldiers and Platoon of the 82nd Airborne. His actions saved many of his fellow soldiers. He loved being a Husker and the future of this country. On April 8th, his birthday, He presented to his school, the Armor of God Plaque (Be strong in the Lord). It now hangs in a place of honor in memory of Kevin Gaspers.

His father said, when his family was notified of the death of Kevin, it was raining quite hard, thundering and lightening, as if god was mourning his death. Kevin laid down his life for us and his country.

1st Lt. Kevin John Gaspers awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist's Badge. They were presented by Major General Jackman of Washington D.C., and Major General David M Rodriguez, Commander, 82nd Airborne.

Since WWI, the Gold Star Button was awarded to Pam, John, Katie, Audrey and Paul Gaspers, the immediate family members of a fallen Hero.

After the service, Communion was held and after which the song "On Eagles Wings" were sung by the Chorus and played by the musicians.

THE FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ED LOCKER, JR.

Kenneth Edward Locker Jr. was born on January 30th, 1979 and past on April 23rd, 2007. He graduated Burwell High School in 1997. His father still lives in Burwell. He joined the National Guard in Wayne, Nebraska and later transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska. On August 9th, 2006,  he was awarded the Purple Heart for his action in Iraq.

Ed's faith was strong. The Pastor for the service was Matthew Berndt of Saint John's Lutheran Church of Burwell, Nebraska. Ed was Baptized in the Lutheran Church. He is remembered as a very loving person.

The 23rd psalm was read. Thanks was given to the Lord for his loving kindness to Kenneth and all Your servants who, having finished their course in faith, now rest from their labors. Readings from the bible were read. Then the Hym "Amazing grace" was sung.

The Sermon was given by Rev. Mark Middendorf of Zion Lutheran Church of Scotia, Nebraska. Ed Locker's confirmation verse at age 14 was psalm 46. The Patriot Guard is here to witness these proceedings. All that was here is gone for Kenny, but for us believe in GOD on this earth.

Following the service, The Presentation of Medals was given by the 82nd Airborne Division of  Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to the family. This included the Bronze Star, The Army Commendation Medal, and the Purple Heart. To conclude the service the song "Winds Beneath My Wings" were played.

The procession to the Cottonwood Cemetery was immediately sobering. Citizens lined the route holding flags and saluting. As we passed a group of patriotic citizens, a Golden Retriever laid prostrate facing the procession about 25' from the group, all alone. His front paws cradled his head and his ears laid back. It was as if he was in mourning for the downed soldier and honoring the procession as it passed by. Dogs do understand and they show it.

At the cemetery, taller flags were placed around the tent. The Patriot Guard stood at attention holding our flags. After the casket was placed by the pallbearers of the 82nd Airborne, and full Military Rites of the 21 Gun salute, the folding of the flag, and taps were played. This concluded the service.

Left - It was a somewhat cold and rainy day. Many Patriot Guard Riders came from as far east as Iowa and some from as far West as North Platte riding in the wet weather.

Right - Full Military Rites from the 82nd Airborne Division of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Interment at Cottonwood Cemetery, Burwell, Nebraska.

Ride from Omaha,to York:

Due to the fact that there could be quite a few riders attending, and it will be rush hour going through Lincoln, I am requesting that riders from Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding areas meet in Seward ( Exit 379 ) at the SHELL gas station (SPEEDEE MART) on the south side of I-80, at 0745 where we will meet, fuel up, and clutches out at 0815, and proceed to York (Exit 353) and stage up at the Wal-Mart just ˝ mile north of I-80, on Hwy 81,with an arrival time of approx 0845. This is mainly being done due to lack of Road Guards available, and going through Lincoln with a large pack at rush hour, WITHOUT road guards is not a situation we want to put ourselves in. Please judge your time accordingly, and ride safely.

MEMORIAL FOR 1ST LT JACOB FRITZ

THIS MEMORIAL IS BEING WRITTEN NOT ONLY FOR 1ST LT. JACOB FRITZ BUT TO ACKNOWLEDGE ALL OF THE VETERANS WHO STOOD THEIR WATCH ON A VERY COLD AND MISERABLE DAY IN JANUARY FOR THEIR FALLEN HERO.

Editors Note: The following pictures are thumbnail. Turn down the music and click on the pictures to bring them to full size. Then go to the back button on the top left of the border to return you to the page. Do not click on the Red X as that will take you out of the internet.

The following is a report of Wednesday, January 31st, 2007. The day dawned cloudy and very cold mid teens and threatening snow. Most of us took cars and met in Auburn at 9:00 for a short ride to Falls City. We past the Church and Cemetery where the service and burial was to take place about 5 miles from Falls City.

We arrived at the Pamida Parking lot across from the First Christian Church across the street where we were to assemble. They had coffee and rolls to help remove the chills.

After the meeting, we were greeted with about 1" of snow and still falling. There were about 7 riders who braved the cold, but they decided to leave their bikes in a garage that was made available to them.

We proceeded back to the Lutheran Church where the family was to have a private service and we lined the streets and sidewalks with flags to show respect for the family and friends. It was still snowing, temp. about 15 degrees and wind out of the South about 20 mph.

After the family service we proceeded back to Falls City and the Prichard Auditorium where the Public Service was to take place. There the Patriot Guard stood watch along the sidewalks into the auditorium.

THE MEMORIAL SERVICE

First Lieutenant Jacob Noal Fritz was born in Falls City, Nebraska on September 28th, 1981 and entered into rest on January 20th, 2007 at Karbala, Iraq

This from Pastor Merelyn R. Snider, Jacob's Minister from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Greetings to the 1st Lt. Jacob Fritz Family, Aunts, Uncles, and friends: Also a special greeting to the Patriot Guard and Honor Guards. We remember our loved one not to suffer anymore the miseries and dangers of war as people file in in sadness. Jake was free. He is remembered in his Military uniform proud and straight in the service he loved doing for his country. He lived life to the fullest for such a short time, but he had the confidence to come to the Lord. Jacob believed  in the freedom he was fighting for. He paid a high price for the purpose of peace, and felt that the people of Iraq should have the same freedoms.

This from his school classmates: He was an athlete, always pressing to work harder. He always wanted to go to the Military Academy at West Point. He was a person of character. He liked competition and was a strong leader. One of his strongest virtues was his friendship to others. He influenced many people that he touched.

This from an Air Force friend who was a classmate: He was a great friend always wanted to serve his country and attend the Military Academy and wanted to be a jumpmaster. He always loved football. He was a kind man and was usually smiling. He always had lots of dates while attending school and much faith in himself.

His aunt said he had dreams to accomplish much as a Nebraska boy. He had a beautiful singing voice which he used in church, always thinking of his family, his school, and serving his country. He is our Hero.

Jacob was baptized on October 25th, 1981 and his confirmation verse was "He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake." Jacob was a member of the United States Military Academy Glee Club and participated in the recording of "The Mansions of the Lord" (Editors note: These young people are very close to my heart, and I have had their hymns on my website for a few years. Play the e-card at the bottom of this article.)
