Nebraska Job's Daughters

Mary Louise Gillispie

Supreme Second Messenger, PGG, Grand Secretary

Job's Daughters is an organization for young women just like you. We can help you learn important skills for life, such as leadership, organization, teamwork and self reliance. We work to help our community.

We honor a rich tradition and heritage that has been a part of Job's Daughters since 1920. But most importantly, we want you to have fun doing the things you like to do.

Throughout the year, Job's Daughters plan and share a lot of fun activities. Arts and crafts, photography, sewing, and creative writing are just a few of the activities we enjoy. Also, girls participate in sports including soccer, softball, volleyball, swimming and bowling, and we like to sing and dance, too! Many of our local groups have competitions with awards and recognition for outstanding achievement.

You and your new friends in Job's Daughters play an important role in serving the community. Such as visiting hospitals and homes for the elderly to offer friendship to people who might be lonely and sad. We have food drives and other activities to provide for the less fortunate.

Our charity, the Hearing Impaired Kid's Endowment (The HIKE Fund), provides hearing assistive devices for children in need. Our popular "Hikes for HIKE," provide a special charitable service to our community. Our work with hearing-impaired children has led many groups, called Bethels, to learn sign language. We are proud to be "kids helping kids! "

This from Mary Louise Gillispie, Past Grand Guardian, Nebraska Job's Daughters as printed in the Masonic News article "Job's Daughters celebrates Founder's Week March 6th - 12th"

Girls learn:' Leadership - Teamwork - and Self-reliance'

During the week of March 6th - 12th, Job's Daughters around the world will celebrate Founder's week to honor Ethel T. Wead Mick. They honor a rich tradition and heritage that has been a part of Job's Daughters since the founding by Mrs. Mick in Omaha in 1920.

FOR GIRLS 10 TO 20

Job's Daughters provides an opportunity for girls to work together, to learn about themselves, and to help others. It is an organization for girls from 10 to 20 years of age, and who have a Masonic heritage. The girls learn important life skills of leadership, organization, teamwork, and self-reliance.

This from Bethel 5, International Order of Job's Daughters in Lincoln, Nebraska comes this: The object of this organization is to band together Girls between the ages of 10 to 20 who are duly related to a Master Mason, for spiritual, and moral upbringing, to seek knowledge, to teach the love of God, love of Country, respect for its flag, love of Home and Family, and reverence for the teaching of the Holy Scriptures.

IN FIVE NATIONS

Bethel 1 in Omaha was the first Bethel. Nebraska currently has 47 Bethels with six in Lincoln and 5 in the Omaha metro area. However Job's Daughters is an international organization, with Bethels in the continental United States, Alaska, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and the Philippines.

    PARENTS WELCOME

To become a Job's Daughter does not involve an embarrassing ritual or test of courage. Initiations are solemn, meaningful, ceremonies presented by the Bethel Officers. Parents are welcome at initiations and all meetings. Although Job's Daughters is not a religion and is not affiliated with any religion, it does require that members have a belief in God. Every person witnessing a regular meeting of a Bethel must be a Master Mason in good standing, the parent, grandparent or guardian of a Job's Daughter, or adults of proper Masonic relationship.

H.I.K.E. FUND

Job's Daughters play an important role in serving the community. Their charity, the Hearing-Impared Kids Endowment (the H.I.K.E. Fund), provides hearing-assistance devices for children in need. Job's Daughters are proud to be known as

 "Kids Helping Kids."
