MC Polio ride
Hi Fellas!
You may be aware that Rotary has worked with Polio Eradication for several
years. One of the great promotors of this is "Motorcycle Bob", he himself is a
victim of polio. He will be riding into Lincoln on Friday, May 27, about
11:00am and heading for the Capital. His aim is to travel to each of the State
Capitals and end up in Chicago for the Rotary International Convention in June.
We're trying to get as large of a group of riders to ride into town with him
to the Capital that morning. Would you be interested? Perhaps you could pass
this information on to your friends. We are thinking about meeting at the
Waverly exit about 11:00 am and
ride to the capital together. We can talk later and work on details.
Please let me know if this is something you would like to do.
We are all working for children's health.......we're just glad we don't
have this problem in the USA anymore, but actually, polio is just "a plane ride
away" since it's still in India and Nigeria.
Mary Garrison
Brethren,
I received the following e-mail from Mary Garrison, wife of Jack Garrison. Both
are very active in the Rotary with Mary being a top officer a year or two ago.
(District Governor I believe). Jack is a member of the Blue Valley Tri-Scats
and is a rider.
Since the message was written, a few more details have been filled in. The
original message was "Waverly exit". That has now been changed to the Phillips
66 station, Hwy 6 and 84th street. (Mary, it is 2.8 miles from the exit to 84th
street).
The escort route will likely be 84th street to O, O to the north steps of the
Capitol building.
There is a $10 luncheon at the Capitol after a brief ceremony. Anyone
interested in eating needs to contact Mary @ 402-583-4110 by Tuesday.
There is a good possibility of media coverage for this event. If you are able
to participate, please wear a unit/club shirt/uniform. Please give Mary or I a
call with any questions.

HISTORY
The History of the Iron Nobles began
as a club of Harley Sportsters formed in 1996 by Noble Tom Kennedy. Some of the
original members include Tom Kennedy, John Jacobs, Mike Birnsthil, Roger Yant,
Dave Murphy, Roger Drucker, and others. As some of the members sold their
Sportsters, there was a need to include other Harley models into the club.
Later, Noble Dale Lueders joined the club.
The club name was changed to include other model Harleys and the name was
changed to The Iron Nobles to reflect this change. To be a member one still
needs to own a Harley.
The club's purpose is to ride for
fellowship, for Parade purposes and also for organizing Poker Runs and
other benefits for the Shrine. Their original license plates on the bikes
reflect this purpose, namely 4 kids. Presently, there are over 30
members in this club.
April Edition by Dale G. Lueders, correspondent
The Iron Nobles had a great 2003 with many
activities including our Annual Rib Fest in July which had over 50 in
attendance.
The Iron Nobles Second Annual "Ride for the Kids"
Poker Run in August grossed a large sum of money to be donated to the
Transportation Fund.
We finished the year off with the Annual
Christmas Tree Sales in November and December. Because the Christmas Tree Sales
have dwindeled in the last few years, The Iron Nobles voted to no longer
organize and sell Christmas Trees in 2004.
Our membership in the Iron Nobles has increased to
around 30 new members. This is an amazing number when just five years ago there
were only ten members.
Our new Captain, Don Crouch, is planning a very busy
and fun 2004. Some of the activities include helping with and supporting the
ABATE MOTORCYCLE SHOW in February. We are sponsoring the last stop for the MDA
(Muscular Dystrophy Motorcycle Run) on May 22nd. We hope this to be another
annual event and fund raiser for the Iron Nobles. We have organized four Parade
Teams this year so we can participate in far more Parades that we have in the
past few years (watch out Cruis'n Classics). And finally, we are preparing
for our annual "Ride for the Kids" motorcycle ride.
The Unit goal this year is to get 10 new
Nobles. Ride Safe, have fun, and be Proud to be a Shriner.
