Ingeborg McMaster It is with sadness that I announce the death of the wife of Liberty Lodge #300 Bronze Jordan Medal Holder, Bro. Jay McMaster. Ingeborg was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on January 29th, 1913 and passed away on February 21st, 2006. "Inge" was a graduate of Peru College and was a retired teacher from May Morley Elementary School. She was Past Matron Eastern Star, Member of First Christian Church in Lincoln, and mother of the Year, Boy Scout Cornhusker Council. She is survived by her Husband Jay. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Genesis In the beginning, Hiram Club was formed for the purpose of bringing together Master Masons in the city and elsewhere for the purpose of promoting friendship and good will among civic thinking people in the Lincoln area and elsewhere about the State. Therefore, this page best fits as being placed under the Blue Lodge banner as every applicant must have attained the degree of a Master Mason. It is open to all Lodges and through the years, Master Masons of all walks of life, from the youngest Master Mason to Grand Masters and Imperial Potentates have become members and distinguished themselves as Brother Hirams'. HIRAM INTERNATIONAL CHARTER Know all men by these Presents: That whereas the officers and members of the HIRAM CLUB of LINCOLN, NEBRASKA, Under Letters Temporary, have regularly, and in due form and manner, made application to the Governing Board of HIRAM INTERNATIONAL, for a Charter as such Club, and have conformed to and complied with all and Sundry the Constitution, Regulations, Edicts and Decrees of HIRAM INTERNATIONAL. Now, therefore, let it be known that HIRAM INTERNATIONAL, through its proper officers, and by action of the Governing Board, and reposing full confidence in the following named officers of the said HIRAM CLUB of LINCOLN, NEBRASKA U. L. T. towit: James L. Searson, President, Charles E. Reilly, Vice President, Edwin C. Boehmer, Secretary - Treasurer, and Governors W.B Ryons, Glenn G. Fordyce, Stanley Maly, and Wesley C. Becker, members therof, does hereby grant unto the said officers and members named above, this CHARTER, conferring herewith all the rights, benefits, and privileges of a chartered club in HIRAM INTERNATIONAL, the said club to bear CHARTER NUMBER 10. In witness whereof, HIRAM INTERNATIONAL, has caused this CHARTER to be signed by the Master Builder, and the Chairman of the International Governing Board, and attested by the Master of Records under the SEAL OF HIRAM INTERNATIONAL. Given under our hands in the City of Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A., this 21st day of July A.D. 1926. Signed Philip Y. Pendleton, Master Builder,A.L. Miller, Chairman International Governoring Board, attest Wallace B. Preece, Master of Records, of HIRAM INTERNATIONAL. Fellowship, Civic Involvement, and Education for Master Masons since 1926 A letter from the original Brother Hiram, W. Lee Greenslit, who helped form our club in 1926, and served as National President from 1929 to 1930, and was written on February 24th, 1975, in Dearborn Hts, Michigan. Brother Hiram Greenslit passed away in 1980. He writes: Dear Brethren, According to our faithful secretarys notice, you are meeting today to honor charter members. May I add "Charter Members of a Great Club" that has never had a criticism spoken against it. I have never regretted having had a part in building our organization. I shall never forget some of our early outstanding leaders such as Brother Searson, our first President, followed soon by Brother Talbot, and Brother Wilson. Brother Wilson had Hiram Club endorsed by the Masonic State Board of Masons as an eligible Masonic Group, which was before then a debated question. Bro. Ed Boehmer always pepped us up to sing our best, such as it was. Our speakers were tops. I recall particularly General Pershing and Clarence Darrow. The latter wouldn"t speak until he had a wee bit of whisky to wet his whistle. Lincoln was dry at the time and I never did know where the needed draught came from. Other leaders in the beginning were the Beckman Boys who persuaded members of the Nebraska Supreme Court to join our group. Judge Carter became our good President. This is just a sample of our good leaders and their Masonic behavior. I would like to mention our Brother Elmer Magee who told us about George Washington Masonic Lodge, and our good Secretary, Brother House, who has given us such a long and exemplary service. May the "Shadow of Hiram" never grow less. Fraternally, W. Lee Greenslit HIRAM CLUB PRESIDENTS

B'S NORMAN HALL & THOMAS TYE The following review is from a tape made made by Most Worshipful Brother Thomas Tye of the Grand Lodge A.F.& A.M.of Nebraska , and Most Worshipful Brother Norman Hall of the Prince Hall F. & A.M. of Nebraska. It was aired on KMTV Channel Three in Omaha in about 1990, M.W.B. Tom Tyes' term of office. From M.W.B. Norman Hall comes this: Our First Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons of Nebraska served his term approximately 25 years ago. Prince Hall Masonry is a fraternity of morality and benevolence, with members who share responsibility to ourselves and to others. The Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Nebraska was started in 1919. We have lodges in Scottsbluff, Grand Island, South Souix City, and Omaha, Nebraska. In 1990, The Grand Lodge of Nebraska formally recognized Prince Hall Grand Lodge and reciprocated by Prince Hall Grand Lodge. From M.W.B. Tom Tye: Committees were set up by each Grand Lodge fot the purpose of formally recognizing each lodge by the other, and on February 3rd, 1990, in open Grand Lodge of Nebraska, this full recognition between the two Grand Lodges were adopted by both Grand Lodge Officers. The Grand Lodge of Connecticut and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge were the first to recognize each other. and Nebraska was the second six months later to grant full recognization and to recognize Prince Hall as a legally constituted Grand Lodge. The degree work is similar and both lodges participated in the degrees together. They both agreed that each lodge is soverign one from
another. Both lodges shared workshops at there Grand Lodge sessions. At this time, 32
states have granted full or partial recognition. Notes: To all Presiding Masters of their respective Blue Lodges. SUMMARY OF PROGRAMS FOR 2006 This Program was given on the 23rd of February 2006 History of Knights Templar Apron During the Revolutionary War Lafayette was conferred with the degrees of Knights Templar at Alexandria Virginia. He was invested with a K.T. Apron with skull and crossbones. It was referred to in Webb's Monitor of 1797. Webb describes the Apron as white with a black border or black with a white border with skull and crossed bones embroidered in silver. Until the formation of the Grand Encampment and publishing the general statutes of 1839, that a permanent design was agreed upon. Commanderies of the day tossed uniform design back and forth and we, today, still fight costs as they did then. The skull and crossed bones remind the Templar and others as symbols of the last of mortality. It was adopted as an emblem of the ancient Templars between the third and forth crusade. So impressive is the skull and crossed bones, it is the first to attract your attention of the portrait of Lafayette. In British Masonry, Templary was related to the Rose Croix and Kadosh degrees before Scottish Rite. In our country, Templary Degrees were worked in the blue lodges starting with St. Johns in New York and St Andrews Lodge in Massachusetts, the first known Blue Lodges in America chartered in the middle 1700's . Mark is very well versed on his subject as a General in the Nebraska Air National Guard.
General Mark Musick gave a very fine talk on the situation in Iraq and how it related to the Nebraska Army and Air National Guard. He also summarized the war in Afghanistan and the differences between the two wars. He also brought us up to date on the latest equipment and refueling practices in the Air National Guard and how together they are used to keep aircraft in the air. Many of our Hiram members had many questions to ask of the General concerning the war, which made this meeting a very informative program. We thank the General for the time he spent with us. September 23rd, 2004 - Herb Henry, a Past Master of Lancaster Lodge #54, will tell us about the postage stamps from the era of dirigibles. He collects and has new ones to tell us about, and the air ships they publicized.
Brother Herb Henry, from Lancaster Lodge #54 presented Hiram Club members a very fine program. He is a very avid stamp collector and his subject today was on the "Around the World trip of the dirigible 'Graf Zeppelin' . There were three stamps issued in April 19th, 1930 commemorating the historic flight on August 8th, 1929. Herb tells us that there were 4 legs to the journey. The Graf Zeppelin left its home base in Friedrichshafen for Lakehurst New Jersey. It left Lakehurst on August 8th, 1929 for what Americans call the first leg of the journey. It took 55 hrs. It arrived back at Friedrichshafen for refueling and left for Toyko, Japan on August 15th. This leg took 101 hrs. averaging 69 mph. After dropping mail along the way it left Toyko, Japan on August 23rd, 1929, making the 'First Non-Stop Crossing of the Pacific Ocean" landing in Los Angeles in 79 hrs. It left there on August 26th, 1929, and arrived at Lakehurst New Jersey on August 29th, 1929, completing the "Round the World Flight". Herb also tells us that the accommodations for 21 passengers were like that of the Ocean going liners of the era. The altitude of the airship was kept as low as possible for land viewing and also the airship had no oxygen on board. Fire was also a hazzard as the ship was filled with hydrogen and helium was not available. The 'Graf Zeppelin' was later put on display. The 'Hindenburg' was built later and was a much bigger air ship. It later caught on fire at Lakehurst, New Jersey, on landing and was destroyed. We thank Herb for a very interesting program. September 30th, 2004 - Past Potentate Jack Lorenzen of Sesostris Temple will present a program and update on the New Sesostris Shrine Center proposed to be built on our East "O" property. On September 30th, 2004, we were very fortunate to hear from Past Potentate Jack Lorenzen of Sesostris Shrine, who presented us with an update on our New Sesostris Shrine Center. Illustrious Sir Jack Lorenzen began by saying that in 1989, work began on building a new shrine center with Illustrious Sir Dale LeBaron, three Past Potentates, and 3 divan members. It was decided that a relocation was needed because of the flood plane, and the digester located not far away from the present location. A search for land proceeded and in Ill. Sir Dan Roth's year, 72 acres across from Hillcrest Country Club become available for $160,000 which was purchased. Building plans of app. 35,000 sq. ft. were drawn up including a building of 7200 sq. ft for housing the equipmemt. A development firm building new apartments offered to pay us $1,058,000 cash for 52 Acres, still leaving us 15 Acres for a new Shrine Center. So far, we have $960, 000 appraised value for our present location, and we have so far raised $540,000, and we have pledged $130,000 in kind. We are starting a Fund Raising Campaign to be finished in December, to raise 1,000,000 ,the rest of the money. The time is now. we are going ahead with our building plans, he said. He urged everyone to support the project financially and volunteer to share your talents by working on the campaign. Illustrious Sir Jack was thanked for his fine presentation.

Each of these citizenship programs bring about 200 high school seniors-to-be (class of 2006) this time, to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, in early June for a week - long citizenship program. Sponsored by the state offices of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, the week includes study and observation in government offices, a mock political campaign - plus recreation. Selection of "State" delegates begins with applications by high school juniors and final choice by sponsoring organizations like Hiram Club. The "Hiram Club deligate" to Girls State is Miss Anne Peetz, who attends Pius X High School. "Our" Boys Stater is still to be designated. Luncheons move to Thursday at Scottish Rite Temple From Hiram Club Newsletter: Be in line with your tray and $4.50 in hand. As serving line begins at 11.45 a.m., we merge into the serving with perhaps 30 to 40 other Master Masons at tables in general dinning area, or in the board room where we (Hiram Club) will have our program following the meal. All of those attending the luncheon will be welcomed to hear our program. Newcomers to the Scottish Rite Temple may find its front on Centennial Mall (15th Street) little used as an entrance. The easiest access into the building is from the corner of 16th & L Streets. Entrance to the Temple Parking Lot is by a quick right turn off L Street just a few yards west of 16th & L Street. The Southwest corner of the parking lot offers easy access to the Temple's backdoor as you approach it afoot. Entering the building, you may step down or take the elevator to the lower level where you may find coat racks, restrooms, and a lounge usually populated with other masons. All luncheoneers use the same cafeteria line and a cashier will collect $5.00 for your lunch.
As in years past, Hiram Club is supporting - paying fees for - one delegate each to the 2004 Girls and Boys State. These citizenship programs based on UNL campus are enterprises of the Nebraska American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary. Selection of "State" delegates begin with applications by interested high school juniors at their schools, forwarding of the applications (with biographical-citizenship-scholastic support) to the Legion or Auxiliary office and distribution to sponsoring organizations. A team led by Bro. Jesse Neely studied the applications and chose these 2004 seniors-to-be as our scholarship winners: Lowell Vestal Secretary Hiram Club of Lincoln Promoting friendship and goodwill among civic - minded Masons in the Lincoln Area The members of Hiram Club of Lincoln, a local organization of Master Masons from across the city and area, meet weekly to enjoy fraternal fellowship and education.
