On April 24, 1981, an organizational meeting was held at Sesostris Activities Building to form the Flying Fez Club. In attendance was Noble Jack Copenhaver, Commander, Central States Flying Club from Omaha, to provide information necessary to form the Flying Fez club. Noble Dean VanZandt, a Past Master of Liberty Lodge #300, was the person responsible for the new club. Dean was then retired from the FAA where he was a Air Traffic Controller. Twelve Nobles from Sesostris Shrine Temple, all pilots, met in May 1981, to form the club and the by-laws were signed on June 1, 1981 by Dean VanZandt, Commander, and Warren Gus Swanson, Potentate, who just received his 50 year pin in Liberty Lodge #300 in 1999. Charter Members were, Nobles Jack Anderson, Darrel Crose, (Past Master Liberty Lodge #300 and Air Traffic Controller), Steve Green, P.P. Rollie Johnson, John Klein, Ivan Lamb, P.P. Jack Lorenzen, Ward Reesman, Jim Scharton, Vinton Metzger, P.P. Fred Swihart, Phil Steinman, Dave Williams (Past Master of Liberty Lodge #300 and Flying Officer in Nebraska National Guard), P.P.  Bill Cook, Bill Easton, Earl Hawks, P.P.Bill Keller, Harry Kumpula (member of Liberty Lodge #300), Kenneth Laughlin, Leslie Myers, James Russell, Phil Seefeld, Roscoe Malick, (Liberty Lodge #300), J. Boyd Beebe, Pete Tuin, and Dean Van Zandt.

The club was originally formed to transport our kids to the hospitals in Minneapolis and Galveston and home again in one day but the cost of aircraft, insurance and pilot profiency gave way to transporting by van.  Our latest venture is using parade planes in parades and making it possible to provide planes to other temples by  the efforts of our present Commander, Stacy Stasenka .
