History of Doane College Doane College, located in Crete, Nebraska, approximately 25 miles southwest of Lincoln, the state's capitol, is the oldest four-year, private liberal arts institution in Nebraska. Founded in 1872 by Thomas Doane, chief civil engineer of the Burlington and Missouri Railroad, and the congregationalists, Doane College's 300 acre residential campus in Crete has an enrollment of app. 1,015 students, 600 students in Doane's adult education program in Lincoln, and an additional 1,000 students in the college's three graduate programs. (This from the Home Page of Doane College.) On April 10th, 2003, Doane College was honored by the Newcomen Society of the United States of America, at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Guest of Honor and Speaker was Dr. Fred D. Brown, the 10th President of Doane College. Introductions were made by James Hewitt, Chairman of the Nebraska Newcomen Society. Dr. Otis Young of 1st Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska gave the Invocation. Dr. Fred Brown gave some of the History of Doane College and a short film on the college. Welcome to Doane! Doane has two campuses setup specifically for the individual who already maintains a full schedule of responsibilities. The idea behind our programs is to provide programs that meet the needs of nontraditional students wishing to pursue an undergraduate degree. Lincoln Campus The Lincoln campus was established in 1981. Doane Lincoln offers five regular terms and one flex term each year. Courses are delivered at times that are appropriate for working adults. The Lincoln campus offers bachelor of arts degrees in the following areas: Allied Health, Graphic Design, Human Relations, Information Systems Management, Organizational Communication, Professional Studies in Accounting, Professional Studies in Business and Public Administration. The Lincoln campus also houses three graduate programs - Master of Arts in Managements, Master of Arts in Counseling and Master of Education. The counseling program is offering the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)® qualifying workshop. Grand Island Campus The Grand Island campus was established in August, 2003. The Grand Island campus offers bachelor of arts degrees in the following areas: Allied Health, Human Relations, Information Systems Management, Liberal Arts Studies, Organizational Communication, Professional Studies in Business and Public Administration. The Grand Island campus also provides courses in the following graduate programs: Master of Arts in Management, Master of Education
