LINCOLN CHAPTER #6 ROYAL ARCH MASONS 2008
ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER #6 COMMUNICATION
TED MCNEESE It has been made known that our Brother, Companion and Sir knight Ted McNeese has been called to the Celestial Lodge above on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008. He was a Past Master of East Lincoln Lodge #210, was a member of all Lincoln York Rite Bodies: Capstone Chapter #64, Lincoln Chapter #6, Lincoln Council #4 and Mount Moriah Commandery #4. Further information to follow. (Scroll Down to see Capstone Chapter #64) Genesis From the Nebraska Grand Chapter Archives comes these accounts: A petition of dispensation was written to the Grand Chapter on Feb. 21, 1870, to form Lincoln Chapter #6 in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was recommended that J.N. Cassell be appointed High Priest, J.A. Lounly, King and John Helman, Scribe. It was presented to Nebraska Chapter #3 in Plattsmouth, Ne. on the 12th of April, where it was vouched for and signed by the High Priest, D.H. Wheeler. Dispension was granted by the Nebraska Grand Chapter on April 8th,1870. The Dispension was signed by Robert C. Jordan, Grand High Priest, Edwin A. Allen - D.G.H.P., John Reed - Grand King, Jonathan Gardner - Grand Scribe, and attested to by Robert W. Furnas - Grand Secretary. The Charter was written and presented to the Chapter by the Nebraska Grand Chapter on June 23rd, 1870. The reader must remember that The Grand Lodge of Nebraska was chartered in 1857, only thirteen years before the charter was written for Chapter #6. This is basically the very start of masonry in Nebraska Territory as Nebraska only became a state in 1867. Some of our Companions that will be mentioned are famous for starting other masonic bodys in Nebraska. Among them are James Tyler Sr. father of Liberty Lodge's first master. Another great Mason of that era was Major Alfred G. Hastings. A.G. Hastings had been an active mason since 1855 and served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge A.F.&A.M. of Nebraska, Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Nebraska and later served as High Priest, and Secretary of Lincoln Chapter #6, of which office he held when he died. In his obituary of July 10th, 1894, states that he was in his 63rd year and one of the most well known men in the state. He was born in Suffield, Conn. in 1832 and moved to Iowa in 1853. In 1861, he enlisted in the Iowa volunteer infantry attaining the rank of Major. In 1869, moved to Lincoln and became that city's first marshal. For 20 years served as U.S.Marshal. In 1875, he was elected to the legislature representing Lancaster Co. Attorney General G.H. Hastings, District Judge W.G. Hastings of Wilber and County Judge Hastings of Grant were nephews. He leaves a wife, and one brother who lives in Illinois. After his death, DeForrest E. Green took over as Secretary of Lincoln Chapter #6. A matter of record written by L.B. Freeman, Secretary of Lincoln Chapter #6 to William R. Bowen, Grand Secretary, January 18th, 1890 is a list of High Priests since charter: The list was added to from the Archives to 1920. 1870 - 1871 John N Cassel, 1872 - Alfred G. Eric Wenz, 1989 - Louis C. Hurst, 1990 - Royal Arch Masonry Royal Arch Masonry broadens ones mind and is a logical sequel to what a mason has already taken through the first three degrees of symbolic masonry. It makes you feel that you are a better man for understanding your own religion and the lessons taught remain with you as a guide in your daily life. All Royal Arch Masons believe in one God and in respect for each other. One of the finest aspects of Royal Arch Masonry is how so many men from all walks of life can meet together in peace and conduct their affairs in harmony and friendship and call each other brothers. The Four Capitular Degrees Mark Master The Mark Master degree is the first of four degrees. The candidate is laboring on an unfinished temple. He is taught that in the nobility of labor and that as he works on his moral and spiritual temple he must be careful what material he uses and that his work is such to make him fit for the kingdom above. Past Master This is a very beautiful degree and every sitting master should have the privilege of experiencing this degree. Originally, the Past Masters Degree could not be confered upon a brother who had not previously presided over a lodge. Now it is confered upon all cand idates for the Royal Arch Degree. It teaches that he who would rule others must first rule himself. Most Excellent Master This degree portrays the completion and dedication of the temple. Here the Mason sees the reward of his labors and it symbolically represents his life and character and his reward if he faithfully performs his task. Royal Arch Degree Except for the Master Masons Degree, No degree portrays the meaning of Symbolic Masonry more than this one. This lesson shows vividly its connection with the Master Masons Degree and in fact is the final chapter of that degree. It brings to light that for which a Master Mason has searched and is the essence of Masonic truth. Central Auditory Processing Disorder A Central Auditory Processing Disorder is a condition which one has difficulty processing or interpreting auditory information. The vast majority of children and adults that have been tested at the Center for Central Auditory Research at Colorado State University can hear even the faintest sounds, but are unable to process everyday sounds so that they can be understood. Individuals with this problem have difficulty concentrating when in an environment that is not perfectly quiet or has some controlled noise in the background. Understanding a verbal message will be a problem when trying to listen to a speaker and someone else is talking or other noise is present in the background. These individuals have to work harder just trying to receive auditory information in a meaningful manner. Think how confusing it would be if one minute you can understand auditory messages and the next minute words and sentences are totally uncomprehensible. The inability to communicate effectively hinders our everyday life, and well being, and contributes to school failure, emotional upheavals, work difficulties, unemployment, ect. R.A.R.A. - Royal Arch Research Assistance From Murray E. Cooke, General Grand High Priest: Since its inception in 1974, Royal Arch Research Assistance has been the leading philantrophy devoted to helping children and adults with Central Auditory Processing Disorders. R.A.R.A. Through the contributions of the members of the General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International, our phalanthropy supports the Center for Central Auditory Research at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, where continuous efforts are being made to understand and treat individuals with this disorder. From a modest start, our R.A.R.A. trust has grown in a progressive manner through the years. We anticipate that we will top 5,000,000 dollars before the end of 1998. We thank our Companions for their participation. The interest from this account enables us to administer the program and contribute a sum of $150,000.00 per year to R.A.R.A. at Colorado University.
