The 2006 Shrine Bowl is just one fundraiser event planned by the Shriners of North America. They raise billions of dollars to fund the Shriner hospitals and Saturday morning they celebrated their efforts at the Shrine Bowl Parade.
"They've always extended every hospitable, gracious gift to us to make sure we get up to Minnesota and that they're hospitals are completely free which is really a miracle," May said. And like Skyler, Dani Vallis is also a Shriner kid from Lincoln. She lost part of her leg but that hasn't slowed her down. "I like to do different things. I love to dance, yeah I like to just jump around," Vallis said. There are 22 Shriner hospitals in North America and they're patients all under 18, are treated for free. That's what Lincoln Shriner, Steve Hanneman says makes it all worth while "I'll tell ya, when you start to have grand kids and you see they're healthy and you see other kids that aren't quite as fortunate and you're able to help them out, it means so much," Hanneman said. But being able to ride in the parade means the most to the girls. "It was cool because I got to sit in the car and wave to people. It was really fun," Vallis said. "After a while by cheeks started to hurt from smiling but it was a lot of fun," Skyler May said. The Shriner hospitals have helped more than 900,000 children and in Lincoln alone, there are 300 Shriner kids. All the proceeds from Saturday's game will go towards the Shriner hospitals.

The 2006 South Shrine Team and their coaches together with our Shrine Patients The Shrine Bowl North Team at Wesleyan in Lincoln At 10:00 a.m. we were headed for the Wesleyan Campus and Weary Field. Representatives from Tangier and Tehama were on hand to greet the team and our kids.
The Shrine Photographers and other media are there to take pictures of both Shrine Camps
The Shrine North 2006 Team together with their coaches and our kids. "Strong Legs Run That Weak Legs May Walk" Nebraska Shrine Bowl South Team Barbecue The Shrine Bowl South Team Barbecue is held in Crete, Nebraska at Tuxedo Park on July 15th, 2006. This barbecue is put on every year for the South Team by Crete Lodge #37 A.F.& A.M. and their ladies. Bricketts are layed in the grill and fired. Chicken-halfs are bought and put on the grill. The ladies prepared the potato salad, and baked beans in the Sertoma Club Building.
Meanwhile, a careful watch is kept on the barbecue by a patient crew. Our Band kept us entertained while the food was being prepared.
Afterward, the team was introduced and they in turn gave their name, position, the University where they are to play and introduced their parents. This day turned out to be a very beautiful day and it cooled down toward evening. A very fine time was had by all. Nebraska Shrine Bowl North Team Picnic The Sesostris Band set up in the new cafeteria about 5:15 p.m. on Wesleyan University Campus, awaiting the finish of the final scrimmage of the day for the North Team. Everything was in readiness for the hungry hoard of players, coaches, shrine representatives, parents, and guests. A fine meal was enjoyed by all in the new cafeteria by everyone. Noble Bob Starr opened the program and introduced Noble Kieth Will, the Chaplain of Sesostris Temple who gave the invocation.
Noble Bob Starr proceeded to give some of the history of the Shrine Bowl. He said it started in 1958, and now the Shrine Hall of Fame in the basement of the Scottish Rite Temple now proudly portrays the pictures of those teams. The North Team Camps have been in Concordia and York College. In those days they spent 12 days in camp. In the present day they spend only 9 days. They have two a day practices and yesterday morning they practiced in pads. The defense are put on restrictions to prevent injury, and the offense can do anything they want.
The coaches are nominated from classes A. B. C. & D Schools. The North Coaches this year are: Head Coach Ron Mimick of David City Aquinas, Assistant Coaches George Drinnin from Omaha Northwest High School, J. R. Nott of Centura High School, and Michael Speirs of Howells High School. Illustrious Sir Sam is shown presenting the coaches with their Shrine Bowl pins. The coaches make their own selection of players who they want to play on their teams. He gave thanks to the Band for their assistance. He then introduced Ken Krupicka, representative of Potentate, Noble Dick Vosteen, who introduced the Divan present and Past Potentate Noble Sam Nelson, of the Shrine Bowl and his wife Norma.
The players are asked to line up according to their numbers and each gives their name, position, and University which they will attend next year and introduce their parents. The new cafeteria at Wesleyan made this a very enjoyable evening.
