To My American Legion Riders Brothers & Sisters:

I know that many of you are not Masons but some of us are. Many of us ride for the same purpose, that being veterans of one service or another and serving in any way we can for the veterans who are putting themselves in harms way, and their families. These are the same ideals that we as Masons and Shriners share with everyone.

This editor hopes that this website will be meaningful for everyone concerned. Make this Veterans Day memorable by attending the fifth annual Vacant Chair
Ceremony. This Masonic ceremony is open to the entire family, and honors
veterans and soldiers currently serving our country. Col. John Bryan, who
serves the U.S. Army Reserve in Wichita, Kans., will be the guest speaker.
The 84-year-old ceremony was first presented in Australia in 1922 to
remember those who didn't return from the Battle of Gallipoli during World
War I. Today, it stands as Freemasonry's thank you to our brave veterans and
soldiers. The ceremony is presented by members of each of Lincoln's 12
Masonic lodges.

All:  More thought and some appreciated input from members regarding the election.

Since the division of our Chapter into a Lincoln and Omaha Chapters is imminent, it would seem that it would be best to wait until after that event occurs to hold our Officer elections.  Since the By Laws call for elections in November, we will need a vote of members to delay the vote.

Here is what I propose:  We delay the vote for Officers until after Post 3 in Lincoln has made a decision regarding formation of a Chapter which they will sponsor.  This is expected to occur either the end of this year, or early next year.   We will then at a regular monthly meeting in Omaha, which will make it easy for Omaha area members to attend, elect our Omaha area Chapter officers.  We will continue to hold monthly meetings with all members, our next one is in Lincoln on 11/19 when we will help prepare the packages to be sent to the troops.  If the formation of the Lincoln Chapter does not occur by the time of the Feb. 2007 meeting, we will go ahead and hold elections from the entire membership.

I will send out a separate email about nominations for the officers positions with a description of each.

For now, by Nov 7 (election day Smiley emoticon), I am asking all members to vote yes or no on delaying the election of Officers until the above occurs.  A YES vote means you approve of the delay, a NO vote means you do not approve of the delay.

(Hope you will all renew for 2007, $12.00 to be a member of the ALR)

thanks, bob swanson

All:  At our meeting this afternoon, it was decided that I should send out everyone's email address to all members.  The idea is that anyone wanting to put a "fun ride" together could send out something to everyone.

I hope I got email addresses and not just names.

GREAT MEETING THIS AFTERNOON!  I really enjoyed it and we had a lot of good discussions.  My next email to all will be regarding the election of officers at the Nov. meeting, which will be in Lincoln on 11/19.  The time and location will be provided later.  The reason we are holding it in Lincoln is so we can help the Family Readiness Group prepare the packages for the troops.

NOW, lets see if this works.

take care, bob swanson
